Nintendo Pre-E3 Press Conference Details Final Wii U Design and More

Nintendo might be busy gearing up for E3, but that hasn’t stopped the Japanese giant from live-streaming a press conference straight from its headquarters in Kyoto, revealing details related to the Wii U and much more. The company’s console sees minor overhauls over its prototype versions, with its controller now encompassing a wider screen as well as analog sticks instead of circle pads.

Wii U GamePad

Dubbed the Wii U GamePad, this device also kicks in subtle changes to its button layouts, while an NFC Reader/Writer has been incorporated on its left side. Glimpses of the console’s NFC capabilities were recently seen in the Rayman Legends internal demonstration video which popped up on the Internet. Moreover, this GamePad will even bear the ability to behave as a TV remote without switching on the console.

Wii U Pro Controller

The heart of the Wii U’s appeal lies in its integration with other peripherals. The Wii Remote, the Nunchuk and the Wii Balance Board will all be supported by the console, with the controller’s screen behaving in different ways with all these devices. Along with all this, Nintendo has also announced a Wii U Pro Controller which would be usable for all those wishing to play game the classic way.

The company has gone on to reveal a new network service for the console, called the Miiverse. This will be the first thing one will see when they turn on the device. Described as an online social network, this attribute looks like a scattered menu with varying amounts of Miis around the menu options. Miiverse allows gamers to communicate with their Mii friends as well as other Miis from all over the world by touchscreen typing and by preparing pictures or messages.
