Angry Birds Rio releases in March for smartphones and tablets

After bagging the momentous title of being the ‘Top Paid-For Apple App Store Game’ in the Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition, Angry Birds is now heading towards extending its legacy. Bursting the seams of its apparently phenomenal cult on portable devices, Angry Birds’ developer Rovio Mobile has entered into a game development partnership with Twentieth Century Fox to bring Angry Birds Rio.

Angry Birds Rio

“Angry Birds Rio is a match made in heaven for a mobile application and a major motion picture, and this collaboration with Fox is definitely one the most exciting partnerships we have entered into with the Angry Birds brand to date,” elaborated Mikael Hed, CEO at Rovio Mobile. “In addition to expanding the horizons of two fantastic entertainment brands and creating a great new gaming experience, we have also taken the concept of combining a mobile application and motion picture promotion to an entirely new level.”

Angry Birds Rio features the original birds from the smartphone and tablet games who travel to Rio in an attempt to save their friends Blu and Jewel, two rare macaws starring in the upcoming Fox Motion picture, Rio. Similar to the original edition, Angry Birds Rio will include many hours of gameplay, plenty of replay value along with physics-based demolition challenges. The game is also said to feature ‘unique twists’ derived from the highly-awaited feature film. Featuring 45 dedicated levels at the launch, the upcoming title will regularly be integrated with new levels through app updates.

Scheduled for a launch in March, Angry Birds Rio will retail for smartphones and tablets worldwide. The animated move Rio will be released in theatres worldwide on April 15, 2011.
