Boom Blox announced by EA and Steven Spielberg

A few months ago, we had reported that Steven Spielberg was making a game for the Nintendo Wii. Now Electronic Arts (EA) along with Steven Spielberg has revealed Boom Blox. The game will have more than 300 levels and over 30 wild characters along with an in-game editor.

Steven Spielberg commented, ““I am a gamer myself, and I really wanted to create a video game that I could play with my kids. Boom Blox features an enormous amount of fun challenges and cool scenarios for your kids to solve or for you to master together. My inspiration for this game came while I was playing the Wii for the first time. From the initial concept to what the game is today, it’s always been built around the innovations the Wii brings to playing games. Boom Blox plays on the enjoyment of building and knocking down blocks, something that can appeal innately to kids and adults of all ages.”

Louis Castle is the executive producer. He said, “We developed Boom Blox with endless combinations of gameplay in mind. With over three hundred levels, built upon a full real-time physics model, your experience can be as easy or difficult as you want it to be – there really is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Boom Blox will take the interactivity of the Nintendo Wii to a new level. The game has single player, co-op, and versus gameplay. It features themed environments such as Tiki, Medieval, Frontier, and Haunted where gamers can interact with entertaining characters like block-laying chickens or baseball-throwing monkeys. Gamers can even remix any level of the game in Create Mode using props, blocks, or characters that have been unlocked during the game. Their creations can be shared on WiiConnect24.

Boom Blox is being developed at EA Los Angeles. The game is expected to be released for the Wii in May 2008. A mobile version of Boom Blox is also being developed by EA, which is expected to be out in spring. But it would be great if they could bring out the game on the Nintendo DS too!
