Samsung’s Odyssey Neo G8 Gaming Monitor Is World’s First 4K 240Hz Monitor

Ahead of CES 2022, Samsung has unveiled a slightly downgraded version of its flagship Odyssey Neo G9 curved monitor. Called the Odyssey Neo G8, this is still a powerful gaming screen by itself, managing to offer 4K resolution visuals at a 240Hz refresh rate, making it the world’s first with this combination.

Like its massive larger cousin, this new monitor is curved as well. There’s a 1000R curvature on its 32-inch screen. Not surprisingly, it’s powered by the Quantum Mini LED technology, which lets the display offer more than 2000 nits of brightness for its visuals.

This allows Samsung’s Quantum Matrix and Quantum HDR 2000 technologies to be present on this gaming monitor. The Odyssey Neo G8 ships with one DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 connections. Its Auto Source Switch+ feature automatically changes sources when a connected device is powered on, while the CoreSync feature adjusts the rear RGB lightning of the monitor based on the colours in the content.

This Odyssey Neo G8 being Samsung’s gaming offering for the coming year, two more monitors have also been unveiled by the company for different use cases. The first one is a 32-inch 4K monitor called Smart Monitor M8, which comes with a built-in webcam for Google Duo calls. Thankfully that’s not the only purpose it serves as it can double up as a TV thanks to pre-installed apps for streaming services.

Another monitor announced by the company is the Samsung S8, which is aimed at content creators. It comes in 32-inch and 27-inch sizes with UHD resolution and has been certified as glare-free by Underwriters Laboratories.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 gaming monitor as well as the two other new monitors are all set to be released in the first half of 2022 but their prices remain a secret.
