The high-end video games peripheral maker is at it again, this time unveiling the Razer Kraken Pro gaming headset and the Razer Kraken music and gaming headphones at GamesCom 2012. Having been ‘field tested’ by professional gamers and athletes, the weight of the headset has been optimized for comfort even during lengthy gaming sessions.

Off late, Razer has stepped out of its black comfort zone with hues including green and orange, and the Kraken Pro comes in green and black. Not only that, the left ear cup houses a completely retractable microphone boom, which has been designed to make its presence felt only when needed. The unidirectional mic sports a flexible design allowing it to be strategically adjusted.
“We’ve made some comfortable headsets over the years, including the Orca and the Carcharias, but I don’t think we’ve ever developed something as ergonomically sound as the Razer Kraken,” Robert “RazerGuy” Krakoff, president of Razer USA, explained. “We put the Razer Kraken through a meticulous design process and I fully believe we’ve reached the pinnacle of comfort with this headset.”

The Razer Kraken Pro’s closed ear cup design with circumaural padding allows for better isolation of stray sound while its 40mm Neodymium magnet drivers have been built for a wide range of audio replication. The pro version comes with an analog 3.5mm combined jack, a 1.3m cable with a 2m splitter adaptor and an inner ear cup diameter of 50mm, and tags along regular features like a 20Hz to 20,000Hz frequency response and a 32ohm impedance.
The Razer Kraken on the other hand is a simplistic version of the same headset. It comes sans the mic and hence also the splitter adaptor, but retains the 3.5mm audio jack. In keeping with the cable extension that the pro version gets, the Kraken features a 2m extension cable. Understandably, it weighs slightly less – 280g to the pro’s 293.
The price of the Razer Kraken Pro gaming headset is set at 79.99 USD or 79.99 Euros, while that of the Kraken music and gaming headphones is 59.99 USD or 59.99 Euros. The Kraken Pro will be made available via Razerzone and worldwide this September, while the Razer Kraken headphones are scheduled to arrive on Razerzone this September and worldwide in October.
