ZRZ-2000

This is the second part in the three-part-series on a day in the life of an Indian gamer.

1.39 PM: Am finally done with all my classes and am homeward bound…have been kept away from my games long enough….aaaaaa…need games…need games…polygons, volumetric clouds, motion blur, ambient lightening…must get home…home…

2.10 PM: I chow down my food in a matter of minutes and switch on my computer to see how the rest of the world has progressed in the world of games…the thing that has caught my eye over the last couple of months is the fact that Sony is being thrashed in the current generation console wars….I admit am a huge Sony fan boy for just two reasons Metal gear and Devil May cry…the former changed the way how I looked at life cause it is full of Philosophical Mumbo jumbo and the latter oozes sheer Style…I once wanted to have the same hair do as Dante and own a black leather trench coat(madness in its absolute form…but very true)…these two games warrant the fact that am going to buy a PS3 someday…even if to I have to donate a kidney of mine…

I used to feel miserable when I saw the Xbox hogging all the FPS (love Dr Freeman to death) and games with all the works of the previous generation but used to console myself by looking at the sales figures where the PS2 thrashed the Xbox to pulp…the tables however have changed in this era…Sony claims to be looking at the long run but The 360 is shining as we speak and is going to continue to do and “Gears of war” just made its position stronger…

2.45 PM: Yawn!!!…am feeling really sleepy…those classes take a lot out of you…if only I had a rejuvenation portion to restore all my lost energy…I plop down on my bed and stare at the ceiling thing of my own game “The Unholy” and ZZZZZZ….

3.20 PM: I wake up and lazily flip through the pages of an ancient “Electronic gaming monthly” its 100th issue to be precise…I love collecting gaming magazines the newer ones cost a bomb…so have to be content collecting older issues…I love this issue for one particular reason they had showcased the offices of EGM in the issue and it is an entire office full of videogames old, new and yet to be released titles…I can never forget this quote from the article…“ Its not a 9 to 5 job its more of a 9 to 9 job…if we are not playing games at work or in our office we are playing them in our sleep…” please pray all those who read this article that someday I get to be sitting in one of those offices and reviewing games…

3.30 PM: I switch on my Xbox and start the level of “The library” in Halo 2…and am trying hard not to get killed in the legendary mode… it took me quite a while to get to the level at this difficulty and am not going to let some darn flood, or the covenant ruin my chances of progressing… I finally get hold of the shotgun and blast their purple blood all over the walls of the so called sacred chamber of the covenants…this is not like last night where the A.I took undue advantage of me being a human who gets exhausted at the end of the day…I rise victorious but never can I savor taste of victory or joy with my beloved games…

4.46 PM: Am interrupted by my mother again who wants me to run some errands for her which unfailing reminds me of “Grand theft auto” where the main character has to deliver packages, escort people, buy guns, pick up “Stuff”…but reality takes all the fun away…I start walking down the street till I arrive at my destination…now this shop being a wholesale shop is extremely crowded and you have to wait for a whole 20 minutes before buying anything…there is a Japanese game which lets you control a restaurant called “Curry house CoCo Ichibanya” and serve its customers with the variety of food in a time limit…the game is fun in its extreme eccentric form…I wonder if this whole process of buying and selling can be made into a videogame…ummm…

5.50 PM: I reach home and sit on my Xbox again…I switch my game to “manhunt” the game which was to fill gamers appetite before the release of San Andreas…this is one brilliantly made game form its levels of difficulty to its beautiful(Horrific) portrayal of gore…all the stealth weapons in the game have an amazing feel to it…this game is probably a psycho’s dream come true…there is one more game which receives really a high accolades in my books …It agent 47 in his elegant role in the Hitman series…

7.00 PM: Time to finish my assignments…I sit down with them and monotonously scribble some random things off my course text books onto my assignment sheet…and finish it as soon as possible…

7.30 PM: Am already doodling bits and pieces of my imagination of my very own game on rough sheets of paper lying about…I love guns (no puns included…don’t even think anything perverted…I warn you) so I draw out a picture of a portable missile launcher which I proudly name the Z-RZ 2000…this weapon is to going to be used in my future game “The unholy”…and I’ve even thought the perfect tag line for the game… “Shock, Horror, Insanity & Terror” are not the only “SHIT” you’ll have to deal with… (see it all the beginning alphabets spell out shit and the game is going to be full of such elements…) am feeling mighty proud of myself…(hold on for a few more days have a little something lined up for the blog)

8.10 PM: yawn…am getting tired by all this writing…I sometimes wish I had a clone who would take of such irrelevant tasks while I engaged myself in saving the world from the clutches of a megalomaniac…My favorite gaming character has been “Snake” from the metal gear solid series…here s a little secret I never liked metal gear ever in my life…my friend who proudly introduced me to the wondrous world of games used to argue regularly that metal gear was an amazing game and I as always would always refute the fact till one fine day I played the game…sons of liberty…gaga is the only word on my mind right now…

“Four hours to go before I sleep…Four hours to go before I sleep…”

Neelesh Frost…kidding….
