The Last of Us Part 2 trailer is brutal AF, check it out

It’s been a long wait since the launch of The Last of Us in 2013, but it sure looks like it’ll be worth it. Sony closed its Paris Games Week event with a trailer of the sequel to the much acclaimed Naughty Dog title and it is brutal! This sneak peek into The Last of Us Part 2 does not feature any of the main characters – Ellie and Joel. Check out the video posted below.

The Last of Us Part II appears to take place a few years after the last game ends. It begins with the usual ominous atmospheric effects – a dark, rainy night in what appears to be a lonely dell. A woman is being strung up on a noose and is about to be disemboweled before being hanged. A low whistle pierces the tension and another character named Yara is dragged into view.

The idea of this being some sort of religious cult solidifies as the female who was about to disembowel the other unfortunate hostage, asks the new captive for the location of an unnamed ‘apostate.’ She gets a fleck of spit in her face as an answer. She then tells her henchmen to ‘clip’ Yara’s wings – another way of saying ‘beat her arms to a pulp with a hammer.’

Naughty Dog Creative Director, Neil Druckmann, has shared some notes on the trailer through the official Sony PlayStation blog. He says that Ellie and Joel were deliberately left out of the clip to keep viewers focused on the new characters who are ‘integral to their next journey.’ He signs off by promising fans won’t have to wait too long for the next reveal.
