Metal Gear Solid 4 Will Have to Sell Million Copies on Launch Day, says Konami

Konami has spent a lot of time and effort in developing Metal Gear Solid 4 for the PS3 and they surely would be expecting a lot in return. Now the assistant producer of MGS 4, Ryan Payton has spoken about the game and said that it needs to sell more than a million copies on the launch day.

He cited the costly production but seemed skeptical because of the lower than expected sales of the PS3. Ryan Payton told Reuters, “We are telling our fans that if you want to play ‘Metal Gear Solid 4’, you have to buy a PS3. The PlayStation brand has always been good to us, and we are pretty bullish on the PS3.”

Sony too wants exclusive titles for the PlayStation 3 and the senior vice president of marketing at Sony also confirmed that they have fifteen internal studios working on PlayStation titles. But analysts seem cynical about Metal Gear Solid 4 being a game that will sell PS3 units and some even feel that gamers who already own Sony’s next generation console will buy the game.
