Atari Classics Evolved for PSP Introduced

If you thought that classic games were only available these days on next-gen consoles like the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360, then you are mistaken. Atari has announced Atari Classics Evolved for Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP).

Missile Command

Classic games such as Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Battlezone, Centipede, Lunar Lander, Millipede, Missile Command, Super Breakout, Tempest, Warlords and Pong will feature in Atari Classics Evolved. What’s more, these games will come in two versions, original and an evolved version. This will maintain the original gameplay while adding beautifully rendered up-to-date graphics.

Besides these games, more than 60 original Atari 2600 titles like Yar’s Revenge, Night Driver, Canyon Bomber and Crystal Castles will be available for gameplay. Not only that, Atari Classics Evolved will include online Leaderboards for the original 11 coin-op games. This will permit gamers all over the world to compare scores. It will also feature peer-to-peer wireless compatibility for titles that have multiplayer capabilities.

Matt Rush, Producer, Atari says, “We are looking ahead to providing gamers with the experience of the iconic Atari catalog on a handheld platform. Offering these Atari classics in both their elemental and modern forms should excite both old-school and next-generation gamers alike.”

Atari Classics Evolved for the PSP will be developed by Stainless Games Ltd. The game is expected to release in Fall 2007.
