PopCap Bookworm Volume 2 Review

Lex, the adorable green worm with typically nerdy glasses and a bow tie is back! To once again battle it out one-on-one with amusing rivals backed by the mantra “The pen is mightier than the sword”. But our charming hero Lex goes through this whole expedition with a secret motive of saving someone from the claws of death.

This all new second volume of PopCap Bookworm is packed with noticeably better animation and background art when compared to the earlier one. To get you geared up, this adventure starts with the tutorial mode. Here the smart aleck green worm faces the battle ground for the first time. This is when you meet Stuffy, who is the tutor for this stage and a rather tough task master. As Lex learns to battle, Stuffy totally spells it out for you as to what you should be looking forward to.

You want to stick around in the game? Then spelling longer words is the key to success as this helps achieve special bonuses such as powerful letter gems. These bonus letters are a real treat as they harm the enemy in different ways, like a ruby burns the enemy, the amethyst poisons the opponent and the emerald on the other hand heals by blessing Lex with two hearts and so on. At a later stage in the game, these powers become your only hope for survival!

In the later stages of the game, keep track of your foes, as certain opponents are soft targets when it comes to specific words for e.g. the foes from under the water will show extreme dislike for words related to fire.

The theme of this new volume revolves around three books, namely Fractured Fairytales, The Monkey King and Astounding Planet, each of these offers a complete story which complies of 10 exiting chapters. The first chapter starts with the harassed mother goose being chased out of her tale by the big bad wolf and Lex gets all charged up to save her.

Believe us, the task to save mother goose is no cake walk, but once you save her, she decides to stick with Lex like a true momma. She also provides the little green worm with extra life, every four turns. Though, at a later stage in the game you can choose to swap her for other companions who provide different powers.

A true laughter riot in this game is the sixth chapter, Forgotten Forest, which we assure will take you down the memory lane as it starts with a ginger bread man waiting to fight it out. Then is the turn of Hansel and Gretel. Hansel comes with a stick, while Gretel is there with her precious bread crumbs.

It is in fact the most entertaining sight ever to watch Gretel attack Lex with her basket of bread crumbs which once were her only hope for survival.

After each chapter, Lex earns various treasures which act as his much needed security shield. Through this adventurous journey, often a hut pops up that gives Lex the option taking a break to play a mini game, which, if played well, will give him some super bonuses that are not worth missing.

The game progresses in such a way that you do not get bored. Every stage brings with it some thing really unexpected and to keep you glued, there is a constant sarcastic conversation going on between Lex and his opponents.

Yes! Ease of time in this game is no issue at all while you make words. But if you take a long pause then get prepared to upset Lex who warns you when he is getting annoyed.

Another plus point of this game is, after each level you are shown a list of the words which worked the best for you and did the magic.

The only drawback in this adventure is you can’t spell the names of countries which often act as a flaw.

The Final Word: PopCap Bookworm Volume 2 is a complete package and has it all, be it the drama, action, suspense or an infinite replay. Easy
