Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games has announced that it is currently developing a videogame based on an upcoming movie called ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’. This movie has been made by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films, and will see a 2008 release in theatres.
The Spiderwick Chronicles video game will feature multiple playable characters each of whom will possess special and unique abilities.
According to Al Simone, senior vice president, Global Marketing for Sierra Entertainment, “Sierra Entertainment is excited to announce that one of the most anticipated family entertainment films of 2008 will be coming to the world of video games as well.”
“The Spiderwick Chronicles video game will authentically recreate the world of Jared, Simon and Mallory Grace, putting gamers in their shoes as they discover a hidden world of fantastical creatures-sprites, ogres, goblins, brownies and more. Fans of the Spiderwick books now not only have the movie to look forward to, but will be able to live in their favorite fantasy world in this adventure filled game,” Simone further explained.
Most will not know that The Spiderwick Chronicles is actually a best-selling book series by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi in which twin brothers Jared and Simon, along with their sister Mallory Grace, embark on a dangerous journey filled with adventure and perils.
The Spiderwick Chronicles video game is expected to be available worldwide in February 2008 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and Wii consoles. The game will also be released on the Nintendo DS and PC platforms.
