International Karate Released on Wii VC by Nintendo

Nintendo has announced that this week’s Wii-kly update includes one new WiiWare game, which turns out is a first person shooter, and three virtual console games. Onslaught is the first FPS game to be released on WiiWare and it puts players at the heart of a huge wireless adventure. How often do you see two firsts like that?

Onslaught

The WiiWare game, Onslaught drops players straight into an exoskeletal alien war against us humans. Take out the onslaught of aliens with all sorts of weapons such as grenades, machine guns and a host of other weapons and defeat the enormous alien bosses. With the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection players can co-operate to fight the aliens in Free Battle mode or collect the most points in Ranking Battle mode. Onslaught is developed by Hudson Entertainment and is for 1 to 4 players. The game is available for 1,000 Wii Points.

On the virtual console front, there are three Commodore 64 titles, two of which are connected to martial arts and the other is a car racing game. The first of these is The last Ninja and is for one player. In the game, Shogun Kunitoki is sworn to destroy the Ninja brotherhood and obtain their knowledge. He beckons the souls from the Nether World and destroys the Ninjas paying their respects to the Shrine of the White Ninja. Armakuni, who is effectively the last Ninja, takes an oath to fight Shogun and every last one of his followers.

The next virtual console game is International Karate, also developed initially for Commodore 64 and for one to two players. This is a karate tournament simulation game in which a player can play against the computer or against a friend. Fights are hosted in locations all around the world and an old “Yoda” of a judge will keep a keen eye on each move you make. Just be sure not to actually punch or kick your friends while playing this one.

The third and final VC game this week is Pitstop II, again developed for Commodore 64, and was the first racing game for a computer. The third-person game features a split screen mode for 2 players but can also be played by one player. From intense rivalries on the track to the individual ego clashes in the pits, Pitstop II has all that there is in the sport of motor racing.

Each of the virtual console games is available for 500 Wii points. These Wii points can be purchased at retail outlets or in the Wii Shop Channel.
