New Super Mario Bros. Wii unveiled

Super Mario Bros. first hoarded huge acclaim when it hit the gaming scene in late 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Nintendo developed the title as a sequel to the Mario Bros. which unveiled in 1983. With many games ensuing since then, the latest title to hit the series is New Super Mario Bros. Wii. A first in the Super Mario series, the game enables up to four gamers to play together may it be co-operatively or competitively.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is bursting with many familiar faces that have captivated gamers throughout the years as well as stunning new features. The title includes free-form multiplayer action which allows gamers to either save them or throw them in the path of danger. In Story Mode, players can seamlessly jump in at any level and adorn the role of Mario, Luigi or any of the two playable Toad characters. Two additional multiplayer modes include Coin Battle and Free For All mode which enables gamers to play their favorite stage and complete many different objectives. The copies of the title can be espied in a red casing complete with a foil-stamped cover.

Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing stated, “As the holiday season draws near, it feels especially appropriate to offer consumers a new Mario adventure that they can enjoy together with family and friends, for the first time in the series’ illustrious history. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has something special for everyone, and lets players of all abilities explore the imaginative world of the Mushroom Kingdom like never before.”

The new features enable Mario to change into Penguin Mario allowing him to slide on his belly and toss snowballs. A Yoshi character is also available during gameplay which players can mount. The Yoshi is able to eat enemies and fireballs and items with the help of his tongue. Being fashioned for the Wii, the title also exploits the consoles motion controls. A new feature namely Super Guide which provides players with optional game-play tips to get past some tricky areas. This feature also lets a computer-controlled Luigi character play through a tough stage. Gamers can regain control of Luigi at any time during the level and finish it at their own leisure.

No word as yet on the pricing of New Super Mario Bros. Wii by the company.
