Prince of Persia Movie Delayed to 2010

Earlier this year, we had reported that Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal would be playing the lead role in the Prince of Persia movie. The film is based on one of the most popular game franchises of all time. Now Variety is reporting that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie has been delayed.

Prince of Persia

The Prince of Persia movie was supposed to release next year, that is on June 19, 2009 but now producer Jerry Bruckheimer as well as Disney have postponed the release date. The fantasy action movie will release in 2010 Memorial Day weekend. Mike Newell is the director of the Prince of Persia film and he just started working on the film last week in Morocco. The production will then move to London.

Besides Jake Gyllenhaal, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie stars Gemma Arterton (who plays the role of princess Tamina), Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. It seems one of the reasons for the delay is that Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer are playing it safe as they aim to make Prince of Persia into a big movie franchise like Pirates of the Caribbean.
