Sledgehammer acknowledges Call of Duty WW2 server problems

Connectivity issues have been plaguing the multiplayer experience in Call of Duty: WWII since its launch a fortnight ago. Soon after release, the HQ which has space for 48 players lay empty due to the fact that Sledgehammer had to suspend matchmaking in order to solve server performance problems. So gamers could only complete Daily Order bounties by inviting friends over.

Although the FPS received a major 1.04GB update for PS4 and Xbox One last week, it has done nothing to fix the online social space. Additionally, it has brought about a negative impact on server performance. This has forced the developers to move to P2P (listen) servers for the time being, according to a blog post by Sledgehammer.

The company is fully aware that this will result in an overall inconsistent gaming experience for players. So the goal is to shift the load to dedicated servers eventually. Test solutions for the same are already being tried out in select markets. Don’t worry; Sledgehammer hasn’t forgotten about its fan base that plays Call of Duty on computers rather than consoles.

The update patch for PC users is ready. It’s merely been kept on hold until some of the aforementioned glitches are ironed out. Since dedicated servers call for a bigger investment when compared to P2P, it’s obvious why Sledgehammer decided to rely on the latter to begin with. Now’s the time to fix that; we’re waiting.

In other news, Call of Duty WW2 was inadvertently rolled out with double XP. So that’s why some folks have been leveling up so fast. Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey confirmed as much on Reddit recently, sending shock waves through the COD community. Everything will be back to normal from today onwards.
