Tintin The Videogame: PS3 / Wii Bound Only?

There is a lot being spoken about the upcoming movie Tintin And the Secret of the Unicorn which is being directed by the infamous Steven Spielberg. The movie not only meshes four books that were crafted by Herge (The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, Red Rackham’s Treasure and The Shooting Star) but also is a motion capture 3D based action/adventure which reminds us of James Cameroon’s recently released Avatar.

Ubisoft has also bought the rights to make a video game adaptation of the movie, a fact which was announced sometime last year. However, the platforms of its release were not quite clear. Here we have found a profile of an individual who works at Ubisoft Montpellier (the studio that is handling the game) and describes not only the platforms for which the game is being designed for but also states the engine that is powering the game. According to Patrick Charron’s profile, the game is headed to the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii and uses the Lyn Engine. This is the very same engine that was being used to power the once announced now elusive sequel to Beyond Good and Evil by Ubisoft.

The fact that this game is being developed only for the PS3 and Wii leads to a speculation on whether the game extensively uses the aspect of “motion control,” something which has been a long time favorite of Steven Spielberg. If we roll back time he once partnered with Electronic Arts to release Bloom Box and its sequel on the Wii and has also being responsible for creating the Medal of Honor series which harbors its roots on the original PlayStation.

Movie based games are yet to make an impact in the world of video games and vice versa including Ubisoft’s own movie adaptation of “Avatar” which got mediocre reviews and poorer sales figures. Will the fate of this game be any different is perhaps a question that time shall able to provide an answer to. The game still has almost a year to go before its completion, so till then we sit wait and watch.
