Bayonetta: A Tighter Action Game than God Of War 3?

The rage of Kratos has been boiling on the PlayStation 3 for quite some time now. With all the fuel that this game has guzzled in terms of hype we were expecting something phenomenal out of the game. If initial reviews are to be seen, most of them seem to speak about the combat mechanics being more in line with the original two games. There seem to be very few changes that have been incorporated to make the experience refreshing, though we completely agree that since it is a franchise changing, the core mechanics will hamper the overall game experience.

Bayonetta God Of War 3

However, we cannot help thinking about a certain game which takes its reins from the original action masterpiece which starred Dante and debuted on the PlayStation 2, Bayonetta may be a mash up of Mikami’s P.N. 03 and the original Devil May Cry but it handles so beautifully and the action is so tight that even Kratos feels inadequate when placed in comparison to the hairy witch Bayonetta.

We have seen tons of videos for the action in God of War 3 and the only thing that was on our minds was this looks visually good. The animations might rival a Pixar movie but most of it feels the same recycled stuff that we have already seen and digested in God of War I and II. The point that comes across is that there have been so many games that have tried to craft a similar playthrough as Kratos’s journey and we have been waiting for a game which would perhaps throw us off the beaten track of smashing up and enemy and triggering off a quick time event. Two prominent examples which exemplify this behavior is the game based on Wolverine, which was pretty brutal in its own way and the recently released Darksiders, which has a protagonist whose gameplay mechanic has an eerie Kratos mechanic to it.

When Bayonetta was initially announced very few could actually visualize the crazy action dynamics that are actually present in the game and our playthrough has been immensely satisfying. The controls are so tight and have been beautifully meshed with the overall mechanics of the game that one feels deprived of the chaos when not interacting with the game. God of War 3 might have an epic scale to it with jaw dropping graphics. But one cannot help imagine that this chaos actually feels subverted to the stylized experiences that one comes across in Bayonetta. The game constantly pushes the field of action to extremes with each passing level that the addictive feeling does not stray away for even when one has put their controller down.

God of War might do epic titan clashes like no other game has done till date but the action frankly seems to repeat itself after a point which might become a point of concern. This is an opinion that we harbor since being only witness to God of War 3 and actually having played Bayonetta. We would wish to reserve our final comments till we get our hands on the game once it releases in the near future.
