God of War II HD Mode Revealed by Island of Rhodes Website

After the Sony owned God of War website IslandofRhodes.org was discovered, there were many conspiracy theories regarding the site. Many speculated that the timer was counting down to reveal the details of God of War III or had more info about the PSP version. Some even felt that the site would display info on the forthcoming God of War movie.

God of War II HD Mode Revealed

However, none of them turned out to be true. Instead, the website revealed details about running God of War II at a higher resolution. To activate the HD mode, PS2 gamers will have to hold down L1, L2, L3, Square and Circle as the game boots and before the white “SCEA Presents” text appears. It will have a purple hue if the task is executed correctly. The site also has a developer commentary on two of the levels in God of War 2.

Tim Moss, Director, Technology, SCE Santa Monica wrote, “Now this in NOT 720P. Its actually 480P with FULL SIZE buffers, in other words 640*448 resolution. It was tough to get working…it almost did not make it in and that is why we hid it rather than make it standard. The extra resolution makes the game run a little bit slower, but it is also prettier. It’s not going to be for everyone, but it sure does look nice and it made the God of War Art team very happy.”
