The Last Guardian finally has a release date for the PS4

The Last Guardian was hitherto part of the league that consists of games stuck in development limbo. Sony has finally pulled this title out of it, and has given it an October 25 release date for the PS4.

This game has apparently been under development since 2007. It was officially announced at 2009’s E3, and was supposed to be released in 2011 for the PS3. Then in 2012, its development was pushed onto the PS4. The same year also saw its director Fumito Ueda and other members of the team departing.

Thankfully though, Sony managed to retain Ueda and his team as creative consultants for The Last Guardian, with the technical aspects being handled by its own outfit, Japan Studio. At last year’s E3, this title was reintroduced to the world, and we now finally have a release date to look forward to.

The Last Guardian

There’s so much excitement surrounding The Last Guardian owing to the fact that it has been created by the same people who gave us gems like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. These titles are characterized by puzzle-based action-adventure gameplay with minimal sounds and a heavy emphasis on atmospheric effects.

The Last Guardian revolves around a young boy who has befriended a giant hybrid creature named Trico. It will of course feature just single-player gameplay. Until now, we were aware of Trico as the only hybrid creature in the game, but the newest gameplay trailer also shows us a dark villainous version of it.

Like we said, The Last Guardian will be out on October 25 for the PS4. Pre-orders for the game are already live on various retail websites.
