Xbox One and PS4 players to be able to play together soon

In a move that has surprised everyone, Microsoft has announced the launch of a new developer-end feature that will allow creators of games to embed support for cross-network multiplayer. That means while Xbox One and Windows 10 gamers will indeed be allowed to play with or against each other, there’s even the possibility of PS4 owners joining the league.

However, this requires Sony making the feature available from its end as well; so there’s a big question mark right now on whether or not Xbox One and PS4 cross-platform play will be possible. Without taking any names, Microsoft has invited other platforms to participate in this venture, but it remains to be seen whether Sony agrees to it any time soon.

Through a blog post, Chris Charla who is the director of ID@Xbox has announced that Rocket League is the first ever game that will be taking advantage of this trait. That means, for now, Xbox One and Windows 10 gamers will be able to play together over Xbox Live without any boundaries. This game is also available for the PS4; do remember.

At any time, if a player wishes to disable this new addition, they can. Although for now we just have one game supporting this feature, the list is expected to increase in the near future. It should be noted that it’s not just limited to small indie offerings, and cross-network play will also be possible for big league titles.
