Xbox Live Receives Most Popular Online Console Gaming Service Award from Guinness World Records

The Xbox Live is the digital media delivery and online multiplayer gaming service from Microsoft Corporation, and at this year’s E3, Microsoft announced a host of new features including Facebook and Last.fm for the Xbox Live and controller-free gaming for the Xbox 360. Now we have word that the Xbox Live service has been recognized as the ‘Most Popular Online Console Gaming Service’ by the Guinness World Records .

Xbox Live Guinness World Record

Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition editors, Gaz Deaves and Matt Boulton presented this award to Xbox Live’s General Manager, Mark Whitten and Director of Programming, Major Nelson at the Microsoft party held at The Standard Hotel in LA. As of May 2009, Xbox Live has about 20 million active subscribers, which is representative of 67 percent of the total install base.

The 2010 Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition will feature this award, along with the history of gaming and the latest gaming records in addition to a comprehensive guide to gaming. The book will also feature interviews with key personalities in the gaming industry. There will be a series of other certificate presentations at the E3 which will all be featured in the 2010 Gamer’s Edition of the Guinness World Records.
