Age of Empires 2 HD receives official expansion following 14 years of release

In a bizarre occurrence of sorts, Age of Empires 2 has been blessed with an official expansion pack following about 14 years of its initial release which took place back in 1999. Well it’s not exactly for Age of Empires 2, but for its HD version that came out for PC earlier this year. Dubbed The Forgotten, this pack is live now on Steam, and can be bought in exchange of 9.99 USD (approx. Rs 625).

A special Steam promotion which will be valid only till November 14, is offering both the game as well as the new expansion at a discounted price of 26.99 USD (approx. Rs 1,690), thus saving 3 USD (approx. Rs 190) for those who go for it. The Forgotten expansion for Age of Empires 2 HD is based on an unofficial mod created for the game by Forgotten Empires LLC. This development team, along with Vancouver-based studio Skybox Labs then worked under Microsoft Studios’ guidance to turn the mod into an official expansion.

It brings with it a total of five additional civilizations and technologies. Moreover, it allows you to make your way through four different campaigns and two new game modes. Additionally, Twitch.tv streaming integration has also been made available with the pack. And apart from Steam Workshop support, it also grants new expansion rankings, steam trading cards, and more.

Like we said, The Forgotten expansion for Age of Empires 2 is live now on Steam, and can be purchased for 9.99 USD (approx. Rs 625). A special offer is granting the game with the new pack at a combined tag of 26.99 USD (approx. Rs 1,690) for a limited period of time.
