EA Sports Games See Over 500 Million Online Matches Played

Games from EA Sports have always been popular with the gaming community as well as those interested in sports. EA Sports, an Electronic Arts label, has announced that since the launch of its ’09 product line last June, 500 million online games have been played. EA Sports games average over 2.2 million played online each day, reflecting an increase of more than 175 percent over last year.

“The massive migration to online gaming has transformed the video game landscape, and this week’s 500 millionth online EA Sports game highlights the radical shift that we’ve helped pioneer in the industry,” stated Peter Moore, president of EA Sports. “Online gameplay allows real-time competitions with fans from around the world who speak the global language of sports. EA Sports is committed to providing personal access to the emotion of sports by continuing to create immersive online features, compelling new downloadable content and daily real-time stats updates.”

Launched on March 19, 2009, FIFA 09 Ultimate Team has seen the most online activity for FIFA 09 in the product’s lifecycle. This unique game mode which is downloadable, adds a strategic online experience to the FIFA 09 product. The game mode puts gamers to task to collect the most talented football players in the world and integrate them into a winning team to compete online.

As digital download, the recent EA Sports titles launched were 3 on 3 NHL Arcade and NCAA Basketball 09: March Madness Edition. 3 on 3 NHL Arcade has won 12 Sports Game of the Year awards and on the Xbox Live Arcade, instantaneously become the most downloaded game, for two straight weeks.

There are six EA Sports titles which have over 500,000 registered users online. Included among the six are the games FIFA 09 and Madden NFL 09 which each have over 2.4 million registered users. Since last summer, users have clocked more than four billion minutes of playing EA Sports games and currently users play the equivalent of over 35 years of games every day.
