New PSP E-1000 to be Aimed at Teens

Sony has made it public that its new PSP E-1000, which was recently unveiled at the gamescom, will apparently be targeted towards teens. Meant for European markets as of now, this device would leave out the Wi-Fi feature and will be offered at a ‘budget’ price of 99 Euros.

While speaking to MCV, SCEE chief Jim Ryan revealed that Sony will be taking the PSP to ‘very young’ consumers. He also stated that Sony has been surprised by PSP across Europe and the response of buyers to the budget range of games and a lower price.

Jim Ryan told the website, “You will see the audience skew younger. At €99/£89 it will make a great Christmas gift. It’s a device to play UMD games. It’s all for the audience. If we are going to take PSP very young – teens and much younger – they are happy to just play the game. If taking wi-fi out is the price to pay, we’re happy to. The €99 price tag is a real barrier that we’ve got under which will help us lift off.”

The new PSP E-1000 which is yet to get a release date will be shipped without Wi-Fi which means that buyers won’t get to play multiplayer games on it. Sony has also announced that a bunch of budget UMDs, priced at 9.99 Euros, would be launched along with the device. These include Invizimals: The Lost Tribe, EyePet Adventures, FIFA 12 and more.

The news about this upcoming PSP E-1000 being aimed at teens might not be a surprising one for gamers, considering its price tag of 99 Euros (approx Rs. 6,432).
