The PlayStation Portable is a wonderful handheld gaming console, it has many features and there are many amazing games available for the platform. However, the thing about the PSP games is that most of the games are from Sony itself and there are not many games from third-party developers.

Shuhei Yoshida

Now Shuhei Yoshida, the head of Sony Worldwide Studios has spoken about the negligence of the PSP by third party developers. In an interview with IGN, Yoshida said, “Yeah, it’s really, really disappointing and it’s a lost opportunity for the third parties. They should look at what the PSP can do for their titles and the potential for the business that their IP has.”

However, when asked about Sony’s plans to convince the third parties to develop for their handheld gaming console, Shuhei Yoshida mentioned that they have to show by examples. He pointed out Monster Hunter was a huge success in Japan and publishers there realize that here is a resource. The Sony Worldwide Studios boss also gave the example of the Phantasy Star game.

  1. me

We are seeing many next-gen games on PS3, 360 and PC make their way to DS but not to the PSP. Sony and PSP owners all have requested for 3rd party not to port their games from PS3/PS2 to PSP. That’s where the problem is for Publshers because thats all they really want to do but are not doing so as Sony has requested not to, doesn’t mean that they can’t. Also the thing is that there is more work to be done porting a game to the PSP than porting it to the DS. The DS versions are always simplefied and basic and they never make good use of the stylus feature. So the DS versions look much different. As the PSP is much more powerful than the DS and is capable of producing PS2 like gfx, then the PSP versions would look to much like a straight port from the PSP, or a PS3 versions with lesser gfx. Gamers want to have a difference to give them a reason to buy the game for their PSP’s from the major graphical superior version of their copy of of the ps3.

    I agree with him.
