The release date of The Last Us was finally unveiled by Naughty Dog at the VGA event which took place in Culver City, California last night. This PS3-exclusive will be launched by Sony on May 7 next year. The date was actually spotted in a new trailer for the game which debuted at the ceremony. This action-adventure survival title was revealed to the world at the same awards event a year back.
Eurogamer was present at the occasion, and has revealed the details of what was shown in the game’s new trailer. For one, the two leads, namely Joel and Ellie were shown riding a horse at some point in the video. This has led to speculations that horse-riding can indeed be included in the title’s gameplay. A little of Joel’s exposition was also revealed. It has been observed that he was in a relationship with a woman called Tess. She apparently, wasn’t able to hold up during the apocalypse around which the game’s story revolves.
The Last of Us is based on an initial idea that fungus can contaminate the brains of humans. Its main focus lies in fact upon the ‘love story about a father-daughter-like relationship’ shared by the two main characters. Joel has been described as a survivor and anti-hero, while Ellie is a 14-year-old girl who possesses no experience of the pre-apocalypse world. A few trailers have come out for the game, and have all revealed bits of new information, fueling the excitement among fans.
Naughty Dog’s last big outing came in the form of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. This series has been the major playground for the studio for the past few years. Following Jak X: Combat Racing, which was its last title for the PS2, it developed the Uncharted series, and launched the first ever game in 2007, called Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. This was followed by Uncharted 2: Among Thieves which came out in 2009, and cemented the franchise’s position among the best around. Uncharted: Golden Abyss was developed for the PS Vita by SCE Bend Studio, but Naughty Dog had indeed participated in the process with its own inputs.
As of now, the ace developer’s only announced project is The Last of Us which is set to be launched for the PS3 on May 7, 2013.
