This week seems to be a special one for video games that are being made in to movies. Yesterday we reported about the Broken Sword movies and today we hear this. According to Variety, 20th Century Fox is planning to make a movie based on the popular simulation game, The Sims.
The movie version of The Sims will be a live-action one. Brian Lynch, who wrote and directed the movie Big Helium Dog, will be working on the screenplay of the film. John Davis and Steve Asbell will oversee the project for Fox while Rod Humble will represent Electronic Arts. John Davis has previously been associated with Eragon, When a Stranger Calls, and Norbit.
Rod Humble, Sims Studio head, EA said, “The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it’s like to have inestimable power and how do you deal with it. Given that that’s an old story, you can envisage how easily that would translate to traditional storytelling.”
No details regarding the director or the cast have been released. But it will be a challenging project for the cast and the crew, as Sims is a simulation game. It is easy to make films on action or adventure games, but it would be difficult to make a movie on a simulation game as there are a lot of possible outcomes in the end.
