Batman: Arkham Origins to feature multiplayer?

It’s not at all surprising to hear news of multiplayer components seeping into established single-player franchises these days, and hence rumors of Batman: Arkham Origins facing the same fate haven’t got us perturbed in any which way. Nothing is certain as of now, but ‘two independent sources’ of Kotaku seem to have got the ball rolling by asserting that multiplayer would indeed by included in the upcoming game’s offerings.

Apparently, a tipster who had successfully predicted the game’s name as well as its cover visual back before it was actually announced was the main source of this information. His details were followed up by the folks working for the aforementioned website, and this led them to a second source who seems to have confirmed the existence of at least one multiplayer mode in the game, while also describing some details about it.

According to him/her, the said mode has players jumping into the shoes of members of either Joker’s or Bane’s gangs, as they try to take down the caped crusader and his sidekick, Robin. Apart from being playable, these super villains will apparently also be customizable. Names that have come to the fore as of now include the likes of Killer Croc, Deadshot, Firefly, Black Mask and Deathstroke. Moreover, the source also mentioned ‘some kind of Electroman character’ which can very well be Electrocutioner.

Fans have been apprehensive about what to expect from the title, ever since it was announced that it is Warner Bros. Games Montreal, and not Rocksteady, who will be at the helm of its development. And now, there’s one more reason for them to feel uneasy, as the franchise’s roots lie solely in the awesome single-player experiences it has offered, and the introduction of something like this could stand a chance of ruining its chances of retaining its brilliance.

This game was announced earlier this month, but very few details about it are out as of now. Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, it will be adopting the same combat system used in them, but will make some new additions to it as well. It will contain a prequel storyline, with its focus set on the Dark Knight’s first encounters with some of the deadliest super villains from the DC universe.
