As we lay our eyes on the Razer Tron gaming mouse and mouse pad, a thought crosses our minds. Time and again we notice Razer having a particular routine, abiding by which it comes up with new gaming peripherals almost on a regular basis. Moreover, it even has this sui generis quality of somehow always managing to surprise us. Kudos to Razer for that! Our review of the Razer Tron gaming mouse and mouse pad got us wondering if the products would be able to cash in on the hype surrounding the Disney movie. Nevertheless, at a first glance the mouse seems as eye-grabbing as it can be.
First things first, the bundle that we got to exploit also cramps up a gaming mouse mat along with the stylish mouse. If you’re one of those bloodthirsty-types who prefer gaming in the dark or if you’re simply using the mouse pad during the night get ready to be startled by the glow trail which is left on its surface as you slither your mouse all over it. In order to make the most of the mouse, one needs to download a client from Razer’s website. This client offers a knoll of customization options for the various keys which are mounted on the device. A cool feature is that gamers can prepare various profiles out of such sets and switch them on while playing different games (or applications).
The superlatively placed lights on the mouse are the ones which give it the Tron look. A hardly-visible Razer logo sits in quietly at the back. Each time, upon activation, the mouse throws a ritzy sound effect from a little speaker placed at its bottom. The mouse’s angular finishing looks splendid but is not suitable for long gaming hours. The edgy nature of its rear part proves a nuisance due to its prickly frame. Excluding the usual buttons, there are four additional ones, two on both sides. While one side houses the forward and backward buttons, the keys on the other side can be used to adjust sensitivity stages. One thing we can tell you is that this trait is incredibly helpful while gaming.
However, the placement of these buttons could have been better. They sometimes get pressed unintentionally. And it takes a very long time to get used to them. Affixed to the device is an implausibly long tangle-free fiber-braided cable. Desktop users need not worry about it. But this wire is sure to be a pain in the neck for on-the-go gamers. The gentle scroll-wheel on this mouse provides you with velvety maneuvers. Furthermore, the 5600 dpi 3.5G sensor is a commendable fit especially for MMO gamers. Flipping the mouse over, you see its four Ultraslick mouse feet that help this rodent glide effortlessly on the mat like a reptile making its way through the badlands. One of the two glows at the bottom is the sensor which is responsible for the trails it leaves on the mat.
Coming towards the mat, it makes for an almost frictionless surface for the mouse. Its glowing trail feature is certainly innovative. The mat is fitted with a non-slip rubber base at the bottom which keeps it glued to table. It is well designed and holds a strange-looking grid design on its facade which too glows in the dark. It granular surface may give you that jittery feeling when you slide your palm over it, but of course, it’s not meant for that. A Razer logo lies concealed on its high gloss acrylic body which when turned over, reveals the big Tron emblem.
Final Word: That pretty much sums it up for our review of the Razer Tron Gaming Mouse and Mouse Pad. The excellent blue-on-black design of the mouse is something which definitely deserves all the attention it gets. In the case of performance we have no indispositions at all. But talking about aesthetics, if only it didn’t have the briery edges! The mouse sits in the palm quite well, but we do wish that it would have been a bit larger in size. The customization options offered by the downloadable client really prove handy if you’re looking for a more personal interface. The gaming mat is a real attention grabber. Its wizardly trail appears to be something straight out of the movie. The only glitch is that it comes into view only in total darkness. You’d be lucky if you can catch sight of some blue spots in daytime. If, from your peripherals, you strictly desire some style and a little bit of swagger these products are for you.
