The first patches for EA’s Need for Speed Carbon are out. These updates include full friend searching functionality, address the online authentication issue, leader board problems, launching issues between XP and 2K, and more.
The patches are on the FTP directory for the North American, UK, UK Collector’s Edition, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and European editions of the game. Click here to go to the EA FTP website.

I can’t play this game. It keeps giving me the error message “You are in the middle of something….” the miment I run it. I’m using a system as follows:
Mobo:MSI 865PE Neo2-V
Proc:P4 2.4C
Graphic Card:Power Color 9600XT Bravo

Harddisk:Seagate 20GB 5400Rpm
Can anybody suggest the solution? The problem is not caused by the graphic card because i tried to swapped it with my friend’s card whicih is able to run NFS Carbon…
I’m also having problems with this game, but mine isn’t launching at all. I’ve updated my DirectX and video card drivers. It just shows the splash screen and flashes with a blank, black screen and goes back to my desktop. Not even the NFSC Patch v1.3 has helped. I’m at my wits end. Can anyone help?
Yeah..that’s what i mean. The same problem as what i’m facing right now. I don’t know which part of my system causes the problem but for sure there’s haraware compatibility prolem. Actually what’s the components of your rig? Mobo, ram, hard disk, processor, graphic card.? Because my friend keeps telling me that it is the mobo. Some MSI mobo got problem while playing certain games..

I downloaded a free copy but it did not work on my laptop. I then installed it on a Mac running xp and it worked fine. I get the same black screen problem with the laptop.
Anyway, if you want to buy it, from my experience it’s worth it. The gameplay is more realistic but the career gets finished pretty quickly. I played for 2 hours the first day and got to 21%.
I was addicted to the demo and the ghost car function, racin my friends car, but ready to buy the game, any news about features, cheats…..???
I went to install the game after i put in the cd-key it went to the license agreement and it was blank so i hit next and it said the game couldnt install because it needed dx 0 or higher. Well their is no dx 0. So why would it do this to me? Is their something wrong with my disk and should i take back the game to get a new one?

Guys, i tried to install the game (NFS Carbon) on my laptop, same as y’all… screen flashes but then it goes back to my laptop. While i’m typing this message, i’m installing the game on my desktop, see what it will do….

Apparentely the C.T.D. (crash-to-desktop) is common in NFS and the same problem I had trying to start the game. – My solution? —- Reinstall XP! Use it only to play games. Leave the current XP INSTALLATION to use for everyday stuff and enjoy gaming on an XP installation free of unneeded software and antivirus free or disabled OS. = Mitsu R

Know i know my processor is a bit slow but have installed the game and open fine. When i click Quick Race then finally click go or race the loading screen comes up for a bit then it goes black….and crashes to desktop…

hi bought the game bout 3-4 weels ago put it in dell PC installed ran untill the screen went black and so i uninstalled it then tried to re-install it but the disc comes up empty with no files in it!?!?! can anyone help?

I just got NFS: Carbon for Christmas. I have a stupid Gateway GT5014 with an Intel graphics card. I installed it and hit run. It crashed to the desktop just like everyone else. Then I installed drivers for both the video and sound card (latest version). It still didn’t work. If anyone has any ideas feel free to post them…

The only issue that i”m having is a video card incompatibilty [nVidia GeForce4 MX4000]. However, the game still opens, I get a grey screen flash, then the game continues in. I’m still getting the dialogue and menu music, and I can pick out what things say, but not enough to play the game. My system is as follows:

Proc: AMD Sempron 2300+ 1.58GHz
RAM: 768MB PC3200
Gfx: nVidia GeForce4 MX4000 [I know it's not compatible with the game]
O/S: WinXP Pro
So, besides that, I don’t have an issue with opening the game, it hasn’t crashed on me, and it exits without hesitation.

I cannot install the patch. When I try to run the excecutable, it goes to a DOS window with something called “RTPatch” in the text. I cannot type anything, and after a minute, it closes. Any help?

Um Hello? This is a highly graphic instensive game with a lot of physics and computer player calculations, unless alienware made your laptop, LAPTOPS WILL NOT PLAY THIS GAME!!! Duh.
Also,
If your game crashes with a repeated sound, then its soundcard related. A black screen followed by a crash is usually related to your video card.
Make sure you have the latest drivers available for your graphics card, soundcard, motherboard, and NIC card.
Also make sure you have all of the latest windows updates and that you don’t have any spyware or adware running.

You need a PC with nuts to play this thing, but it’s very sweet when u have it. If you don’t, don’t even bother. It will just frustrate u like these chumps.

Ok… I’m REALLY tired of this god damn game. I was playing it FLAWLESSLY for about a month, then all hell broke loose. Damn game crashes to the desktop non stop. Im lucky to get one freakin race done before it bombs. I also make and SAVE changes to my video. Once the game restarts, they’re all reverted back to stock.
My system is not a powerhouse per say…. but it’s definately a high end system. Here’s what Im running…..

It’s not my PSU giving up… it’s not my copy of the game as it’s new…. and it’s not my system specs. I can play the game fully maxed with NO lag at all. Actually pushing 50 FPS maxed.
Honestly though…. I’ve tried EVERY fix known to man on this thing. Nothing is working. Im going to format right now and see if I cant fix it that way.

I used to have the black screen problem too.. later i found out it’s due to firewall..the firewall disable the game. so all i did was to enable the game at the firewall side and it works..
i am using a plain 2.6C, msi neo2 mobo, and a simple gf ti3 64mb. 1gb ram. and it works fine to play the game without much lag, only a bit when crashing with other cars.during the start or hitting the wall at fast speed…

well i bought the game off ebay….. im guessn its sum pirated copy coz it has all the need 4 speed games on it with all the trainers… and i cant get it 2 work….. i go 2 install the program and it installs…..but at the end of the installation it says “plz wait a few seconds” or sumfin like that….. then a couple of minutes later it says that the download is complete and that i need 2 click on sum button 2 start the game…. and then thrs the icon to start the game….. when you click on it at comes up wif sum msg about that thr is sum file missing….. if any 1 has the same problem…..wat hav u done 2 solve it?

im running a desktop with higher than 2 ghz athlon and 1500 mem.
video card is a radeon x1600 pro.
game runs OK, just having graphic issues with the lighting. usually at slower frame rates, or when alot of cars on the screen during play. mostly what happens is street lights/cars lights flash when using nitros.
read me file says to turn up video resolution, which worked a little but didnt’ fix it completly and runs even slower. i’ve tried everything. that includes patches, updates, and tinkering with every single video option for my video card and in the game….
i dont know what the hell is going on, but i cant enjoy the game anymore.
has anyone else had graphical lighting issues in the game? i’ve searched ea.com for help, and looked up every search engine. nothing. but i suppose this issue has somthing to do with the gfx cards compatibilty to the game.
for anyone who has compatibility issues to play the game, it could be the video cards options are set incorrectly. when i set the card to high, most likly agp fast write(sp?), the game shut down to desktop.

i went out and bought this game when it first came out
its a fantastic game graphics are stunning on the cars so for those ppl with low end pcs ur wasting your time getting the game because to really enjoy the game u want full graphics on mine installed fine and plays fine it crashes to desktop now an again but i think thats due to over heating issues as my reading on heat sink (artic cooler 7) says nearly 50c
for those of you who are having problems make sure you have the latest driver up dates on your graphics card

So we should all massively sue EA for not specifying that we need an alienware laptop for the game? I have a dell ispiron, not the most top notch thing in the world, and I can play NFS at highest resolution with all effects at their highest. Dell Inspiron, 1gb ddr, T2 @ 1.66ghz(And i don’t even know if nfs takes advantage of dual processing)
My error is as follows, I can play fine, but after I beat Kenji, the game crashes at the end of any race, before returning to free roam, and returns to the desktop. Anyone know of a fix for this?
Oh! update. I installed the patch. And now I have everybody’s error of it crashing during the race. At least before it finished the race and crashed while i dunno switching between the race mode and the free roam mode. So the patch actually made the game work worse. Much much worse.
I was told if you dont have a dvd drive the game will have problems… Im not going to buy a dvd drive just to play this game, Ill just play it on my crappy computer

Processor: Interl Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ
Graphics Card: Inno 3d nvidia GforceFX5500 256mb [ driver 9.0 ]
Ram: 1Gb DDR
Here’s some recomendations to help you out. The game crashes can be attributed to several reasons however these are the most common.
1. System Requirements:
Here’s the minimum system requirements of the game
OS – Windows 2000/XP
Processor – 1.7 GHz or faster
Memory – 512 MB RAM
Hard Drive – 4.7 GB
CD/DVD Drive – 8X SPEED
Video Card – 64 MB*
Sound Card – DirectX 9.0c compatible
DirectX – Version 9.0c
Online Multiplayer – 512 Kbps or faster; 2-8 Players
Input – Keyboard, Mouse
Optional – USB Steering Wheel / Dual Analogue Gamepad
*Supported chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti-4200 or greater (GeForce MX series not supported); ATI Radeon 8500 or greater. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. DirectX 9.0c is included on this disc and may require the latest drivers for your video and sound card. Notice: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW and virtual drives.
You have to check if you’re current desktop / laptop meets the games MINIMUM system requirements otherwise you’re really going to have problems. However if you have the necessary system requirements and it still crashes read on.
2. Video hardware / software
The game itself is pretty demanding in terms of graphics computing power. I’d say safest is a video card that supports pixel shader 2.0 you’re going to have problems as to this is a minimum system requrement of the game. [Note that the pixel shader feature comes from the hardware systems ergo you cant download any software that can make a vidcard support a certain pixel shading version]. If you check with the minimum sys requirements it desclaims that it does not support the Gforce MX series. This is because that series has trouble supporting pixel shaders.
If you’re experiencing crashes when you run the game this is probably because you’re system can’t cope with the graphics calculations being done by the game to start up. The natural process of the OS is that in order to prevent itself from doing serious damage to its hardaware it cancels all running programs [ hence going back to desktop ]. In more exreme cases the hardware has so much trouble keeping up that it breaks down and just restarts itself.
I strongly reccomend you invest in a good video card to not only run this game but so you can also enjoy other graphics heavy games like Quake / Doom 3 / Halflife 2 / ect.
If you already have the necessary video card i reccomend also updating the driver. both nvida and ATI have the latest driver versions available in ther web pages. Here’s the driver download page for nvidia http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
3. Direct X version
The game requires direct X 9.0c to run the game. This sould come with the game if you have the retail version. If not you can get it here; http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx
4. Others
The game itself seriously takes out quite alot on your systems [ not only the Graphics Processor Unit but also your core system ]. My game crashed to desktop after i was playing for sometime. I read in another forum somewhere that this is a normal opperation of the systems if the processor heats up too much. I guess the game is that taxing on the hardware. I tried it myself and noticed my processor temprature went up beyond 40 degrees C after 1 hour of play. I know how addictive this game can be but we sometimes have to give our PC’s some cool time. Either invest in a better cooling system or go easy on the game time. It will be healthier for both you and your PC.

For you guys experiencing in-game crashes [meaning the game crashes in the middle of races]. Again this may be due to the graphics computing power the game requres from the hardware / software. If you have exactly the minimim system requirements I strongly recomend that you run the game in the lowest resolution 800×600 with the lowest graphic settings. This should make the game less taxing on your systems and may prevent crashes. I’m not saying it will completely eliminate game crashing but should at least lessen the game crash.
I have a solution to the directx 0 message. The CD has a compatability problem. With NFSC in the CD/DVD Drive go to START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>PROGRAM COMPATABILITY WIZARD. After that click next. then click “I want to use the program in the CD-ROM Drive. then click next until the wizard closes. Proceed installation.
This worked for me, I hope it works for you guys.

i have run and played this game for a while now i have clocked it twice done all the reward cards and the challenge series i do have the occasional c.t.d. but that only happens after about half an our to 3/4 of an hour of game play i just close that useless anoying windows screw up msg and restart the game i no my box isnt that flash but i have no trouble running this game on 16:9 1024×768 graphics and i run it on a 130cm plasma tv so those of u who are getting told that u have to go and buy this hard core super computer to play it chances are its a sales rep trying to sell u some sh*t laptops my good mate has a quite ordinary one and has played it fine and his dont crash at all so dunno where chris gets his info from but it surely does work on laptops im having issues with installing the 1.3 patch tho i have the one u install from the ea website and it just does as many before have said black msdos screen and then nothing and no update even tried installing in the game directory i dont have the net currently and im at work doing this on the biggest heapo crap u could ever use man this thing has troubles playen solitare and it dont have a burner at all could someone please help me with redgards to this patch problem mail me at manlyenough34@hotmail.com be very gratefull for others with troubles all i can think of is as others have said make sure ur system requirements are met drivers are fully updated and windows is updated and maybe even try playen around with windows compatibility that makes a big difference just right click on nfsc.exe and go to the compatibility tab easy to work out from there give it couple of goes to get the setting right should help a couple of u out thanx guys

Hahaha…NFSC ran on my laptop…Even though its just a celeron, it worked pretty well, i think i cant run anistotrophic graphics but my system can still manage at 4x AA with a little low FPS…After installation, you should use the NFSC Safe Mode to avoid too much conflicts…But mine usually crashes during my first game, but after restarting the game, it usually crashes after several hours…

So i’ve had the game (collectors edition) on my PC twice now.
the first time when it just came out i installed it and could play for an hour or even more without any problems…after an hour and a half i had a ctd and fuck it i just loaded it again…now when several months are past and a couple of formats i’ve installed the game again…i barely get to play 20 minutes until i get a ctd and it is really freakin’ me out. My requirements are a great deal better than the minimum but i still don’t get it…whats the problem now…why now only 20 mins and just a couple of months ago over an hour!
if someone knows teh solution i would be very greatful.

My game starts up just fine, only key points in the game game it will sometimes crash, like ones per hour at the point where you finish a race or the end of a cut-scene… Anybody else have this problem.

Hi, I am using ATI RADEON NX1600 on my labtop(NX9430). I have all the requirement for the game. But my labtop dumps the physical memory. Prompting on the blue screen and restarts. I serously need help on how to fix this. Help me plz, i want the need for speed carbon copy to work.

I have a solution to the directx 0 message. The CD has a compatability problem. With NFSC in the CD/DVD Drive go to START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>PROGRAM COMPATABILITY WIZARD. After that click next. then click “I want to use the program in the CD-ROM Drive. then click next until the wizard closes. Proceed installation.
This worked for me, I hope it works for you guys.

hi i bought nfs carbon dvd edition. and my dvd doesn’t pick it up it just keeps on flashing a green light and nothing happens. i tried on my half life dvd and it plays but nfs carbon wont load up.

I have a laptop and I have NFS carbon installed on it, and it is working perfectly on it except for the game lagging sometimes. I read a post a while ago saying that Carbon would not work on a laptop except for a laptop made by Alienware…so i just wanted to say that is not true…as for the crashing problem many people are having, that was happening to me whenever i tried to play Battlefield 2 on my desktop…so i installed it on my laptop and it works fine…

oh and i have a ripped version of NFS carbon Collectors Edition although i doubt that has to do with working on my computer….and if anyone else has a ripped version you dont need a program like Deamon tools but you can simply download a .exe for NFS that way you dont need to mount an image onto the “fake” drive

Seems that everybody has problem running NFS carbon and this is quite annoying when having a PC with quite the most requirement up to date. My system is:
Mother Board: Asus k8N
Processor: AMD Semprom 3000+ ( 1.8 Ghz)
Ram: 512
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon A7000 Series ( 64mb )
DVD: Sony 16X
I’ve installed the game and installation was sucessfull. I lauch the game and get the sound ok but the graphic black and white without any details. However i still do not understand how a game like Doom 3 being more demanding in term of graphics run fine on my pc.

I’m having the same problem most of you people are having. The graphic pops up with “Need for Speed Carbon” and the two cars drifting around the corner. Then the entire screen goes black like it’s about to run the game but the moniter reconfigures and the desktop pops back up.

I got to solve the direct x 0 problem.. Its simple pow. he directs x cab file is not compatible.. I say copy the files to your system and then delete the direct X folder or update it by downloading the latest version from microsoft. thats yet its done.. you get to see the installation procedure..

Hey nishant me too many times faced these errors but I have got some tips for you in order to solve this error……..
1. Try to reinstall your game.
2. Try to change your monitor resolution to 800*600 pixels.
3. Try to raise your video memory up to 256 MB
4. And last close any extra running program from your task manager that you dont need and then run the game.
5. If your RAM frequency is 333Mhz or below than purchase higher frequency RAM, I think the maximum is 533 Mhz.
I hope it will solve your problem……..

to all those people with getforce mx it’s time to upgrade your computer to play need for speed carbon or some of the new games coming out i installed an ati 9250 and i can play carbon no problems so invest in a cheapy card and stop complaining,it says right in the readme that mx is not supported because it dosen’t have pixel shadeing.

Hi there guys, i had the same problem with the patch not working, but the rest of the game working fine, have now found a new 1.3 patch that works, hope this works for everyone else.

Its funny to hear all these different solutions to the problem but seriously has anyone thought about checking what brand of antivirus your machines are running? … I’ve done all that the EA website has suggested and it didn’t fix the problem. So then i began testing ideas on my own and discovered that so far unless you are running AVG security suite or Trendmicro’s PC Cillin your game will crash. I’ve tried Symantec, Panda, McAfee andthe only way the game works is if i disable the antivirus. Only then I have no problem. But as long as the Antivirus is enabled the game crashes in a few minutes. This might be a long shot but i would encourage anyone to try this and see if your game works. If it does please post a reply here … i will be checking the forum for a response. Thank you very much your input will be appreciated.

I have an Acer Aspire 5570 laptop. I have tried updating drivers, but to no avail… Maybe will have to wait until I get a new PC in a year…
Well after running my tests i have concluded that the game is affected by some of the antivirus solutions. Symantec & Panda Antivirus must be disabled in order to play the game without crashing. Trendmicro seems to work well but as far McAfee i dont know for sure. Im telling u guys … if u have tried everything EA has suggested and it still doesn’t work try disabling your antivirus and play the game… it has worked for me. I used to have the problem with Call Of Duty 2 but it stopped after i started turning off the Panda’s Antivirus.
My system is very simple, I have an Abit KV-85 mobo, Athlon64 3200+ 2.2ghz OC’d to 2.4, 1GB of Patriot RAM, ATI Radeon 9600 pro OC’d (425 core / 230 mem) , a Creative SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 , two SATA Western Digital HD’s (80 & 320 GB), all running smoothly with Windows XP Pro x64 Edition. I know this is not top of the line but it holds its own compared to my old DELL Dimension L800r.

but the update thing does not work for me it just gives me a DOS screen also then shuts off…
I’ve downloaded a trial version and it won’t even install, let alone play. I get the Direct X message which is rubbish as everything else I have using it is fine.
I see solutions like reinstalling XP, uninstalling Direct X and even more.
The problem is this game, not your system.
Get a refund, trash the makers, complain about it. It’s just rubbish OK.
hey all guys with the patch problem… unless u dwnloaded ur patch file frm an unreliable source(i downloaded mine frm GameSpot), just let it run and close itself. Run the game and u will notice that ur game has been patched to 1.3. There is no confirmation or completed message or anything.

Well, i guess i’m all alone in having a win. VISTA problem. I got the demo, and installed fine. when i went to play it got half way through the startup, right when the EA logo goes away and the sound starts. It goes to the windows screen and said, “nfsc_demo.exe has stopped working… A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”
…and it never gives a solution. I’ve given up on trying to figure this out. My system more than mets the reqirements. If anyone can help that would be great, thanks.

I downloaded carbon from net with crack and it was working fine, except online. Then I went to shop and bought original and it seems like it was empty disc. I returned the disc and they gave other one, and it was the same. Anyone nows what is wrong? I really start asking myself why should I buy an original if pirate copy works, but original don`t.

just wondering on regards to the ctd etc, i have tweaked around with my com to run quick as posible and have a room fan sitting direclt on the side of my com to help with cooling issues and i do get the occasional ctd but could it be related to codecs issues too? wen i play nfsc all my videos that nfsc plays during playing the game (eg. rivals, crew members, mountain drifting videos, etc) it only plays a tiny bit of the sound and video for a split second at the start (and right through the hole movies) then stops for a good minute or so then plays a split second, then stops, etc. until the movie finishes. it takes at least a 1/2 hr to play a movie? can anyone help? my email is lildude_want_babes@hotmail.com (mind the email address lol) and my com specs are:

know what, my game runs fine with a once-every-so-often CTD, got it patched, pc runs it fine on full detail, the thing thats really really pissed me off is the lack of controller configuration, where the hell are the options to change your rear view and change view buttons, do EA honestly expect me to reach over to my keyboard everytime i wanna get a decent look behind me(the rear view miror doesnt cut it!), i use a gamepad to play the game and i cant even set rear view or change view to a button on that either, ive googled like mad and cant find ANYONE who has mentioned this issue, but other carbon players on the pc that i know have the exact same problem. EA, your a bunch of lazy greedy morons, why didnt you bother to test the game on the pc!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S the file in the link that guy said fixes carbon ctd, is fake, its really a trojan so please, if you thought about scrolling back up to download it, dont bother!

Anyone with a Geforce FX 5200 having graphics problems with all the cars being black… solution. Go to http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp and download the newest driver. I have tested on XP Professional and Vista Ultimate, on a monitor and television.
Now check this out Im running a intel quad corextreme w/4gb 800 dominator ram w/extreme sound cardand a bfg8800gtx on a acer24inch monitor. and the game wont load past the small black splash screen support is working on this but it runs on my laptop (d900t phantom w/4gb ddr2667 w/ 3.2 p4 dual core and a 7800gtx video card its hard on batteries and a bit heavy but the game plays. it used to play on my desktop when i had a 6700 core2duo and a 7900gtx in it. but this is flippin rediculous 4 dys of trying and ud think they could figure out a fix

i am just giving you relief that if you are running any amd machine that is very good rather running any pentium games go good on amd machine but the problem is that the onboard grafhic. some games only certify some good compnies grafic card that the issue.

In Windows Vista the game crashes when playing movies.
Here’s some trick; delete\rename the Movies folder in the game directory.
Run the game in windows 98\me compatibility mode.
That should make it work
Also make sure that you have the latest drivers for Vista.

To overcome, the damned directX problem when installing NFSC Collecter’s Edition in the first part of the game, I copied everything from the disc (Except the DirectX Files) to Local Disc C and it installed steadily. [By the way, im using Windows XP Service Pack 1]

Ok, for the guy who says that the game will not run on a Laptop, you´re wrong. That game did run well in my old Toshiba 1.6CeleronM with 512Ram & an intel 950Shared Memory And its running perfectly on my friends Dell Insipiron 6400 that is a 1.66 Centrion duo with 2Gb DDR2 and a ATI X1400 with 256DDR2. But in mine´s new HP nx9420 wich is a CentrinoDuo 1.66 with 2Gb RamDDR2 and a ATI Radeon X1600 with 256MbDDR2 it does not work showing the blue screen and rebooting the laptop… And all the times it has been the same game copy. So If you haven´t tried laptops or only one… do not say things like that.

I too cannot get either of the 1.3 patches to work. I have had my fill of EA! Their games get worse with each new release. I find it amazing that EA never addresses these problems but just goes on releasing new games and ignoring the customers who bought previous ones.

Thanks DMN! Renaming the “movies” folder fixed the NFSC_demo.exe error that I was getting. I did not need to run it in compatibility mode after that.
hi. I have bought a 19″ Viewsonic wide screen format (16:9). Running Vista 32bit with latest Nvidia driver 100.65 Geforce 6800 Ultra. NFS Carbon image appear stretched. the game does not offer resolution for wide screen 1440*900. However the same game offers this resolution on older ATI card like 9600 pro. Any help? The game looks pretty bad with cars over stretched on my 19″ wide screen. appears there might be a driver or patch that could help me get proper resolution of 1440*900 on NFS carbon. Please help.
If you are thinking about buying this game go for it, it is so cool and very well made. BUT make sure your computer doesnt have any problems, download the demo before buying. I found this game to be very enjoyable and it was very well made…it surpasses the other need for speed’s by far! Hey everyone, alright, everyone having problems to run the game or demo itself because it stops after the EA LOGO, right-click on the icon on the desktop (or whevever it is) and then choose PROPERTIES. then you have to click the COMPATIBILITY tab, then check RUN THIS PROGRAM IN COMPATIBILITY MODE FOR: and choose WINDOWS 98. Thats it.
Second of all, I have a problem. I am playing Carbon for a while and suddenly/randomly it will go black, or freeze and then continue playing but much slower and skips around. What is the problem anyone. Can it just be over heating. I have a NVIDIA 6150 on VISTA HOME PREM. Anyone can help, thanx

I Installed the game…evereything is mint….i get the odd crash-to-desktop…but that’s after about 3hrs of play time….if the compter doesn’t have some balls…..it only gets worse….but i did find the patch didn’t do cock for on-line play…will work on my own, maybe I can get it right…

I’m also having problems with this game, but mine isn’t launching at all. I’ve updated my DirectX and video card drivers. It just shows the splash screen and flashes with a blank, black screen and goes back to my desktop. Not even the NFSC Patch v1.3 has helped. I’m at my wits end. Can anyone help?
the same stupid black screen thing happens to my computer and super-cool ea games just tells you to do simple and obvious software updates to fix it, which doesn’t make a difference at all. right after the splash screen it just goes to a black screen which i cant get out of without manually rebooting my computer. every other game i have is more intensive on my computer than this one. what gives.

MAn i bought the collecters edition today and all that happens is that when i start the game. I have a Dvd – Rw drive. But it is fast enough.
It goes to a black screen and then STAYS THERE. I tried to alt tab and control alt delete and all that but the only thing that happens is that a really big mouse icon pops up and sometimes it changes to a little hand with a finger pointer thing. But it stays on the black screen it wont even crash to desktop. I have to restart my computer.

I installed nfsu 2 but it only works in safemode it turns off all graphics it also works in 128 MB arm in my frnds PC i think it dosent like my videocard is there any solution other than installing 3D cards to work it properly……?

My question is, because it has been so for the last 2-3 games from EA, that when I choose my wheel (Microsoft Force Feedback), it goes down to the lowest button on the screen all the time, so it is impossible to configurate my wheel.. Any ideas?
patch 1.4 solved most crashing issues (all for me). Also, before 1.4, all you had to do was rename the movies folder in the nfsc directory to remove the crash to dektop issue. Also, win 98 compatibility helped if you still had issues. However, i can’t figure out why my FPS is so low. I have a 7800gt, but have to play on medium settings to get respectable FPS (still pretty low though). On high settings, game is almost unplayable. I have the latest drivers.wtf.

That game did run well in my old Toshiba 1.6CeleronM with 512Ram & an intel 950Shared Memory And its running perfectly on my friends Dell Insipiron 6400 that is a 1.66 Centrion duo with 2Gb DDR2 and a ATI X1400 with 256DDR2. Recentl i got NFS:Carbon. I was so excited cause my friends told me that this game is great. So i installed it – everything went fine. Then i double-clicked on the .exe file. So far, so gut. I started a new career. Everything looks great(cause of my GeForce 7300GT) – ok, lets race. I’ve finished the first race. “Boy, that was great” – i was telling myself. But then the game gave a big fat error with a “Don’t send” button and i was on the desktop screen again. I started the game again – my save wasnt there. Good job, EA! It would be very good to finish your games and then put it on the market. I hope patch 1.4 fix the problem…
go to NFSC folder…right click on setup.exe or demo.exe …click properties..then compatiblity tab…Check the box in compatiblity mode…then choose windows 98…hit apply…it will work perfectly..I have vista and it was constantly crashing to destop until i changed the compatibility mode..have fun

rite ive worked the patch problem out u need to re-install the game n patch it b4 u use a no-cd crack but u cant just use any crack u have 2 find the 1 that is also updated i did find it but i cant remember were from if u send me your email address i can send it to u if u like it does work BUT u still cant get online without a working cd crack which i cannot find at the mo but still working on it

Guys, I wonder if you could help. I’ve bought a legit Collector edition of NFS Carbon; installed on XP machine (GForce FX5500, 1G Ram, P4-630 3.0GHz) – the game shows a little picture than gets into a full screen mode and freezes.
I used a few no-cd patches floating around the net and a patched version starts just fine. I suspect it might be a DRM problem, I read somewhere that the protection system does not like daemon tools which I extensively use (I’ve got 1Tb storage and it is silly not to keep all CDs as images).
I am suspicious of the patches because they all try to connect some unknown ip addresses, I suspect trojans even though no antivirus software complaints and I did not spend a lot of money for the game to crack it.
Any ideas or similar circumstances?

yo, to solve the problem with “you need to instal direct x 0 or hire.. just shut down you’re anti virus program.. and instal the Direct x thats on the dvd.. (it worked for me)
but i now face the problem that it says I should enter the right dvd in my pc (even though I started the game from the dvd, in adminster mode, I runn vista but I run nfs carbon in xp.. and I have the 1.4 patch..) and my pc can take the game easy.. duo core 2.17+2.17 with 2GB ram.. and geforce 7900gs grathic card all fully upgraded..

Deleting the movie files works for me, but they must be there for a reason???

Not impressed with this game at all, patches don’t appear to work either, they go through the motion, but the game still says v1.2.
Shame really as most wanted was great. Looks like I won’t be buying the next installment of this series, I only ever get shafted by a game manufacturer once…

Ive tried to install nfs carbon, getting a need directx version o or higher error, ive tried running it in compatability mode, tried vista and xp, contacted tech support, tried all of their suggestions such as transfering the game to my hard drive and changing the autorun.cfg direct x line, updateded all my video and sound drivers, installed the latest direct x, 10 on vista 9.0c on xp my system is well within the min recomended specs, 3.2ghz processor, 765 ram 256 vid card, was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
Sorry guys, but there is no fix, no workaround, and no magic patch to make this game work any better. The game is flawed, buggy and shouldn’t have been released until it was stable. As it is now, if runs for you, great, if it doesn’t, your f*cked, and it’ll be a cold day in hell before EA lifts a finger to help you or any other paying customer.
well from my experince , carbon does not work well with vista. if you have a ati readon 9550 like i have the game will crash. i then put in a nvidia 6200 and got it to runn.
Hey for all the guys with the 1.3 patch problem i was going through the files and i saw that i had 1.3 read me already installed but it still says 1.2 in game and i got the DOS window aswell. what i think is that it has subconsciously installed so try downloading and installing 1.4 and see if it works

Hi guys…… i had the same problem under xp….wenever i tried to play it,it goes black and end up coming on desktop screen…..but then i installed vista and i turned off the AERO and installed new patch 1.4 and its working really really fine……well i guess vista leaving xp behind slowly slowly…… and ya i orgot to tell ya guys i used the same system as xp……dual core 2 processer and intel 950gma shared graphic card with 2 gb ram…….enjoy:D

I have an answer for that..i think i found out what to do…run the patch file and then once it finishes then open your NFSC folder and put the regini.log in there it will probably beable to let you get into online but after this actully MAYBE it will say you need an update, you probably will, look on google for a 1.4 patch and do the same thing with what i just told you for 1.3, there MIGHT be more files though. Well, I DLED the demo from download.com and when I run it, the GFX are messed up. The texts are grey boxes but the sound works fine.

yay i thought i was the only one with this NFS carbon problem
every 30 mins or so after races and BOSS races it crashes to desktop.
i am 100% sure it is the dual core processor causing problems with win XP which is shit OS.
As for installation, use power iso or something, copy the whole disk to ur hdd, delete the DirectX folder then burn all of it back onto a new dvd (not including the DirectX folder).. now this dx 0 shit wont appear.

After a lot of searching around I managed to talk to customer support for NFSC. If you right click on the shortcut icon, select ‘compatibility’ and set for Win95, it should run up okay.
The only problem I am having now on my laptop is that it keeps crashing halkway through playing. I am running in on a Vista machine and evn running the patch first does not seem to help.

hey all integrated graphics users, download the latest drivers from intel website.. that’s the one and only solution..i got it working in my 945g onboard graphics(with lower settings) with those latest drivers..
I think that ea games, need to get there shit together and start making patches that fix the problem with the crashing and not the damn internet play. Quess what if the damn game want run then who can play on the enternet. crash crash crash.
I think I fixed it!! Guys try these:
1. install patch 1.4
2. disable network cards (disable internet access)
3. launch nfs-carbon.
4. If you have multi-core CPU, press ctrl-alt-del, right click on nfsc process, set affinity, set it to use 1 CPU only.
I’ve had 0 crashes after I’ve done these.

1# for all you that have a NON HACKED version here is what to do
un-install NFSC (need for speed carbon), then insert the disc into the
drive when the auto-run pops up DO NOT ALLOW!!!!! wait about 2-3
seconds then go to my computer and RIGHT click the cd icon
go down to EXPLORE and LEFT click it once done a window pops up
look for the setup.exe THEN RIGHT click the EXE and go to
properties then wait, a box will pop up, at the top it will say
compatibility click it then select use compatibility mode
DO NOT SET 4 XP!!!!!! SET FOR 98/ME!!! the hit apply in the
bottom of the box then run the setup.exe you modifed and install
not done yeat once installed go to the runner in C:/program files/ ea softwere/nfsc.exe and do the compatibility mode for it as well(look up top if you forgot)
once done then run the exe (nfsc.exe) AND DONE !!!!!
4 thoes who have a cracked version this may not work every time but still does work.
find you luncher ( NFSC.EXE ) and run the compatibality mode for it

i need help i was having problems that when i was in the game in free roam or a race the screen would go black other than my spedomider and map and all the hud stuff and the spedomiter would keep going up and up so the only way to stop it is to reastart the race or exit or somehow get to another place but then it would still happen in the same spot and it would happen in more than one place so i uninstaled the game and went to reainstal it but it askd for the key and i lost my manual

I bought the game for my boyfriend for Christmas. Installed it on our PC – running XP. Installation seemed to go OK but when we try to play the game we get a blank screen. Sound is OK so it seems to be working – we just can’t see anything or do anything.

I resolved the crash to desktop under vista by right clicking the exe or the desktop icon and selecting run as administrator.

There are many bugs reported for this game, mine was that it returned to explorer at certain parts of the map.
Here’s my config :

Like many of you, I tried everything I could find in that kind of forum, but only one worked (sorry for the author, I can’t find him back, thanks anyway ‘^^).
I’ll explain his way, that was surely over-secure, but I didn’t want to spend more time re-installing this game, here it is :
-Set compatibility of ANYTHING YOU CAN (installer and exe, …) to Windows 2000 (I tried the other versions, it didn’t work).
-Before launching ANY installer and exe, as well as after having the game installed, restart your computer.
That means you’ll have your computer restarted 3 times : after having switched compatibility of anything you can on your DVD or ISO, after having the game installed, and after having switched compatibility of anything you can in your installation folder. Well, 5 times if you install a patch (compatibility of the installer then of the .exe), and 6 times if you add a crack because we don’t want to insert the DVD everytime, how lazy are we…
Since then, everything works perfectly.
A few tips thought :
-the config you choose on the menu while playing overwhelm the config in the main menu ; so since I lowered everything in the playing menu (to investigate the source of the initial bug), the config I asked in the main menu was always erased when quitting the game, so I had to remake it everytime I launched it. It’s just 30 seconds everytime, but it made me mad ‘-_-
-if you use a key generator (hey, I didn’t say I did ‘^^), be aware that the key you enter is saved in your savefile, what means if you enter another key while re-installing, you won’t be able to play your previously saved game.
This key is printed on the first line of your savefile if you open it through notepad. I tried to change the key directly on the savefile but the saved game was still impossible to open ; I am not skilled enough to explain you why.
Last thing : if you want to collect all the cards, do not launch the last event, because since then my territory was never contested ever again. And try to collect cars by type to fullfill your garage, with the cheapest cars, otherwise you’ll lose a lot of precious money and precious cars.
Now, one question : with a cracked version, impossible to play online… that was not a surprise, however if there’s a solution, feel free to explain !

so i tried to play this since 2006 and i had no luck until i disabled the network adapter and the antivirus program (panda 2008) that was disabled also during the install of nfs carbon.after that i started the game and played it. it took me like 5 hours to finish the game.i had some random crashes but the save file was not damged or corrupted.so my advice is to disable the antivirus program and the network adapter.

My systems specs are inferior againsts your PCs. But I was able to solve the problem. My AVG antivirus was on. My firewall was on.
Celeron 2.26, 512mb ddr1, 128mb ATI Radeon 9250, Windows XP Pro SP2.
My solution: Directx 10. Try lookin’ for it on your search engine. Direct X 10 for windows xp.
Finally i’ve the solution to run carbon on intel graphics even on GMA 950
1. U have to install windows vista
2. Atlest 1.5GB of Ram
then install carbon
after installing change compatibility to windows 98 and enjoy the game

THIS COULD BE THE SOLUTION
for those who downloaded the iso image, mere extracting it was running the setup, we did not have to run the setup again, so instead of replacing the patch in newly created folder in program files, it has to replaced with nfc file in the extracted folder
The steps for getting this game up and running are
- download the game from any shared file site (rapidshare)
- the files downloaded are winrar applications, extract from winrar
- an image file is obtained worth around 4 gb, download an application that reads iso image like magicISO
- u will also have to crack magicISO, go to crackspider.net or search it in rapidshare files that are cracked
- after that open the NFS image in magic iso
- right click the files and extract it where ever needed
- download the no dvd patch
- replace the no dvd patch with the nfsc file in the extracted folder

I have two PCs. The old one doesnt have a grfx card and runs on a P4. I tried to install NFSC. It installs succesfully, but when I start it, only a gray screen appears. No models are textured. But I could play the game.
Then I installed it on my new PC.(Core2 quad 9450 and XFX 9800GTX). This time too, the game installs correctly. But it wont even start. When I start it, a black screen appears and crashes to desktop. A usual error message is also shown askink if u want to send the f*cking error report!!. So i think OLD IS BETTER. I tried numerous so
called patches, but no vail.
I can play NFS1,2,3……..NFS MW on both of the systems without any big trouble.

the game (see if the game is a “fake” or the disc is scrached),
if all the files are downloaded to your pc,

YOU CAN NEVER PLAY THIS GAME …..HEY WAIT …..do one thing ….
STEP1:- download 3d analyze 2.26….do not download the latest version…they have some glich….
STEP2:- well install 3d analyzer
STEP3:- you will see some numbers written in the left of the window of the 3d analyzer software…..chose 1 and select the carbon exe file…..
STEP4:- under the Hardware limit(caps box), ….check emulate HW TnL….and the very next check box….
STEP5:- then under the pixel and vertex shader….check the “skip pixel shader version 1.4″
STEP6:- then go to no 4 written on the left….and click RUN….
What is 3d analyser
It is a software just like the emulators you must have used to play games like the ROAD RASH JAIL BREAK….we needed the emulator for road rash jail break ’cause we wanted to run it in XP since it can’t be run in XP…its meant for 98….so we need 3d analyzer(emulator) for emulating the hardware configuration that is not present in our PC….its that simple
IF PROBLEM still OCCURS !!!!
Then keep on checking and unchecking the relevent check-boxes….and try to run it….it will surely work….
and remember AN EMULATOR NEVER FAILS

hey i guys … m able to install the game with out a problem … buh in the instructions is says
“after installation open crack n serial folder
and then open crack folder n then copy and paste the nfsc(need for speed carbon) icon to the carbon folder in programs files … unfortunately … m not able to do this …
i mean i m not able to copy then icon
as soon as the crack folder opens … it slows down n resulting in the shit not responding

Hey DMN: I have the CTD prob and I tried your method to resolve it (I have 1 GB RAM). But now instead of crashing to desktop it just gives a black screen & when I press escape, it crashes to desktop. Can u suggest anythin about why this is happening…..????
damn this stupid game. a waste of money!!!! keeps crashing on my windows 7 right after i defeat kenji. its a big waste of time. i’d rather u buy nfsmw instead of this game. fk this.
Fantastic, installed and crashes right after the Electronic Arts logo comes up. I had the game running on my old computer, but it dosent like Windows 7 it seems. Have tried running with windows 98, 2000, vista and xp in compatibility mode to no avail.
i tried to run nfs carbon i installed it and at the time when i tried to run it started with a black screen and then it got crashed in the desktop so now i say it is a wastage of time ,wastage of money and nothing else !!!!!
my exams are going on and in a little of free time i tried on this game and wasted my precious time!!!!!!!

i donwloaded the demo version of NFS- carbon from some website n its working great bu tm nt able to find any paatch or crack file with which i can make it a full file. so please if any one has any detail or any info about the same then please mail me at steve_2001_84@yahoo.com. m waiting eagerly. thanks in advance to all friends fr the great help.
when ever I start intallion of game carbon it show an erorr to install latest version of Directx

Same with me. It worked on Windows 7. But now I’m on XP so it doesn’t run anymore. Anyway, this game is not worth playing, i think. I liked NFS:Most Wanted better than this crap. You can try Shift, Dirt 2 or….Burnout Paradise!
I have installed the game but iam not able to launch the game
i have installed the game completly and when i open it it says you need to insert the cd rom but that cd is lost by me so i need a solution to start it or a crack file or something
nfs is not running , when i start a black screen appear and return to the desktop and a message disply don’t send..

hi to u all i was also having the same problem but now i can successfully play it all u need is to move a folder named movies from the game folder to any other location so that game engine do not open them and run nfsc.exe normally. enjoy

*:ATTENTION:* I believe most problems people are having are due to compatibility errors with Vista/Windows 7 and widescreen resolutions! Having played around with switching compatibility to XP sp3 I have been able to run the game in 4:3 resolutions such as 1024 * 768 however no widescreen option is available, switch your monitor resolution to a lower setting and you may have more success running the game. I have tried many workarounds for this with no success some even tried to give me a virus, avoid fiddling if possible, GOOD LUCK!!
