PlayStation Network records over 20 Million registered accounts

Sony has announced that the total number of registered accounts on their PlayStation Network has exceeded 20 million accounts worldwide as of February 20, 2009. Since its launch on November 11, 2006 registered accounts on the PSN hit 5 million in one year and 2 months, doubled in another 6 months and then had doubled again 7 months after that.

The PlayStation Network is a free access network that can be accessed from PS3, PSP or PC. The network provides services such as text messaging, video chat, and online gaming allowing the download of varied content from the PlayStation Store. It currently provides over 55 countries and regions with its free services, thus growing in popularity among PS3 and PSP users.

The PlayStation Network is continually adding to the online content and features such as online battle and co-op play. For the PS3 system alone, there have been more than 600 titles incorporated on the network for online play including the likes of LittleBigPlanet, Resistance: Fall of Man and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The PSN delivers over 14,500 pieces of digital content and to date more than 380 million pieces have been downloaded. Sales of over 180 million USD have been achieved.

An increasing number of people are enjoying the PlayStation experience in the comfort of their living rooms. ‘Life With PlayStation’ is to add more channels making it easy to browse the internet and use the superior computing power of the PS3.
