A few days ago, we had reported that Microsoft will tighten the controls on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Now, they are going a step further by banning modified Xbox 360 consoles from Xbox Live altogether as Microsoft wants to maintain a fair gaming environment.

Modded Xbox 360 Consoles Banned by Microsoft

Microsoft said in a statement, “As part of our commitment to our members, we do not allow people that we have detected to have modified their console to connect to Live,” reads the post. “This is an important part of our efforts to try and maintain a fair gaming environment for the large majority of gamers that play by the rules. This topic is more important than ever given the recent release of the Halo 3 beta. As a result, some consumers that try to login to Live who we detect have illegally modified their console will get an error code (Status Code: Z: 8015 – 190D) when trying to connect to the service.”

Normally, gamers mod their consoles, especially the Xbox 360, either to play pirated games or circumvent region protection. However, a new trend has emerged where gamers mod the Xbox 360 to get an advantage over their online competition. Xbox Live is one of the busiest online gaming services and lots of gamers play against each other for points.

It seems that gamers with a modded Xbox 360 will be in a lurch even if they did not use it to cheat on the Xbox Live.

You know what the best thing they could do to make everything fair, set up a seperate Xbox Live for modded xboxs, then everyone who doesn’t own a modded xbox can play safely without fear of being taken out by an invinsible Master Chief, and those with modded xboxes can play, and show off all the kickass cheats they want, without fear off pissing someone off. But I know that will never happen, because, microsoft is trying to dictate what you do with their merchandise AFTER YOU HAVE PURCHASED IT.

One Green ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all, and in the darkness banned them

Or you can just not mod your Xbox/cheat and play on Xbox Live with an equal system, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE? Also, they’re not stopping you from playing offline so therefore they’re not dictating anything you’ve already bought. You pay monthly for Xbox Live so they’re controlling what you’re subscribing to… Way different. GJ Nicky…

Its one thing to mod your xbox360 to play burnt games and difrent hard drives, or leds, but when they use mods to cheat, thats messed up. Im all for modding, but really, how far is there mod ban going to go.
