Wii Contributes to Nintendo’s Profits

It seems that Christmas has come early at Nintendo as despite the clouds of recession looming all over the world, the Japanese company has shown profits. The net profits at Nintendo have increased by thirty-four percent for the three months ending June 30, 2008. The Wii has driven the profits of Nintendo as it was up from previous years’ JPY 80.3 billion to JPY 107.2 billion.

Nintendo stated that the sales of its current generation consoles reached 5.17 million worldwide, moving forward the total number to 29.62 million. Coming to the Wii softwares, during the three month duration, Mario Kart Wii has shifted 6.42 million copies. As for Wii Fit, it has sold 3.42 million units. The other Wii games that are doing well are Wii Sports and Wii Play.

The Wii maybe doing well but it is not the only Nintendo console that is doing well. They also have a handheld gaming console, which is called as the DS. According to the Japanese company, the sales of the DS are robust not only in the United States but also Europe. However, The sales of Nintendo DS in Japan were down. A total of 6.94 million consoles were sold all over the world. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Explorers of Time was the top game for the handheld.
