Nintendo Wii Tops October 2008 Charts

It seems that Nintendo will be having a great holiday indeed. Right from the time they have launched the current generation console, Nintendo has been seeing a lot of success, though the only problems they faced were due to very high demands. Now the new data by NPD suggests that Wii topped the console charts in October 2008.

If you have a look at the numbers, the figures from NPD Group indicate that the Nintendo Wii sold 803,000 while the Nintendo DS sold 491,000. As for the Microsoft Xbox 360, the console shifted 371,000 units. Coming to the Sony consoles, the PSP, PS3 and the PS2 sold 193,000 units, 190,000 units and 136,000 units respectively.

Anita Frazier is an analyst with the NPD Group. She gave this explanation about the hardware and software sales of video games:

“The sales results are mixed this month, however. The console portion of the market made significant gains at 26 percent across hardware, software and accessories, while the portable side of the market stalled, declining 14 percent. Year-to-date the portable segment of the market is still up 7 percent.”

But if you scrutinize the numbers, the sales of the Wii have outperformed the combined sales of the Sony PSP, PS3 and the Xbox 360, in terms of units. So what about the game titles? Well, the best-selling games are Fable II, Wii Fit, Fallout 3, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Play with the Wii remote that make the top five.
