Angry Birds 2 surpasses 10 million downloads

Less than a week after its release, Angry Birds 2 has already managed to breach the 10 million mark in worldwide downloads. News about the game having reached this milestone has come via its development studio Rovio which has revealed it via Twitter.

July 29 saw the launch of its sequel for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. The game has noticeably decided to include Windows Phone as one of its platforms. Seeing the poor user base of Microsoft’s mobile platform, it wouldn’t have made that big a difference to the 10 million achievement of Angry Birds 2, had it been made available on it.

The game of course acts as a sequel to the 2009 original offering which was successed by several other spin-offs, the success of which developed Angry Birds into a multi-million dollar franchise that now spans into a variety of fields other than mobile gaming. This new sequel is a freemium game by all means.

It has adopted the Candy Crush Saga model for its microtransactions, asking you to either pay or wait for a particular amount of time in order to gain more lives. It takes the familiar Angry Birds gameplay model and adds a number of twists to it.

Among the highlights are multi-stage levels which feature two or more different puzzles in a single level. A number of different spells can also be cast by gamers to use them as power-ups. A fresh Destruct-O-Meter provides you with an extra bird if it’s filled to its maximum due to destruction of the pigs’ contraptions.
