Arma Tactics announced for Nvidia Project Shield

Bohemia Interactive has gone on to announce Arma Tactics, a new turn-based close-combat strategy game meant for Nvidia Tegra devices, and chiefly, the upcoming Project Shield handheld gaming device that was unveiled earlier this month. Said to be in development with ‘close cooperation’ from Nvidia, this game will have its release date slated for sometime in Q2 of this year. Moreover, in Q3, it is also expected to make its way to other platforms such as iOS, Android, PC, Mac and Linux.

Some gameplay details about Arma Tactics have also come to the fore thanks to a press release issued by Bohemia Interactive. This spin-off to the main series will have players assuming control of a four-member Special Forces team. It will have an open-ended experience crammed into it, with no strict strategies or paths to follow. It will be completely up to the gamers, as to how they tackle the story-driven missions as well as those generated with randomized objectives.

They will even have options of adopting a stealth approach or a completely direct one, encouraging the use of strategic thinking and both basic and advanced weaponry. Different types of enemies including unorganized local militia as well as skilled mercenaries will form part of the experience. The developer has even revealed that it will keep infusing the game with new missions by means of regular updates.

It has come to the fore that this title is being made with full body motion tracking. In addition, the ‘console-grade’ controls of the Nvidia device are taken full advantage of by the game, claims its maker. Upon connecting it to a television, its unique multi-screen capabilities will also be exploited by the title. Optimizations for the handheld’s Tegra 4 CPU make their way into it as well.

Device

The Nvidia Project Shield was unveiled by the electronics giant at this month’s CES event in the US. A 5-inch retinal multi-touch display forms its main highlight, while an integrated controller and a sound system have also been granted to it. Its release is expected to coincide with that of this game, as it has been revealed to be a launch title for the Android-based device. And gamers can expect Arma Tactics to hit other platforms in Q3 2013.
