Activision has sold Destiny copies worth more than $500 million

There is no doubt in any way that the highly anticipated Destiny was set for one of the biggest openings the video game history has ever seen. It’s hence not quite surprising to see that Activision has managed to sell more than $500 million of the game to retail stores and first parties worldwide. This also makes it the biggest new video game franchise launch in history. The game which has been developed by Halo-creator Bungie is an MMO shooter that can be purchased for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.

Destiny

Activision has made it known that Destiny was launched with more than 11000 midnight openings that took place around the globe in over 178 countries. Its more than $500 million worth of sale to retailers means this game is well on course to become another billion dollar franchise for the company. And if it continues its great run, then there are high chances that it will be breaking lots of records in the months to come.

Destiny takes place seven hundred years into the future, and is set in a post-apocalyptic age which was preceded by a prosperous Golden Age. It takes the MMO approach for its gameplay, but at the core, it’s a first-person shooter which features role-playing elements. It’s the second major franchise to be created by Bungie, and has been under development since a number of years now.
