There have been movies that are based on video games, but there has never been a blockbuster movie which focuses on the world of video gaming, especially online gaming. ‘Game’ hopes to change all that. According to Hollywood Reporter, Lakeshore Entertainment has confirmed the movie and revealed the cast will include Gerard Butler.
The 300 star will be cast as Kable, who is the top ranked warrior in Slayers, which is a mass-scale, multiplayer online game. But he wants to get back his identity and so he goes on a quest to destroy the system that has incarcerated him. The thriller will be directed by Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine.
Game will be produced by Lakeshore’s Skip Williamson, Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi. Rosenberg stated, “Mark and Brian’s visionary story is a forewarning to us all. The Internet has given us global interconnectivity, yet it has also has made us more isolated, voyeuristic and grasping. We have to ask ourselves if we are losing humanity along the way. As the world witnessed in ‘300,’ Gerard Butler is a powerful performer. He is the perfect actor to play Kable, a man who characterizes the fight against the ruthless commercialization of our lives.”
The filming of Game will begin in January 2008. Lakeshore Entertainment will display the project to international buyers at the Festival de Cannes. I think this is one movie that every gamer would look forward too.
