Sony has made its move, and now, it’s the turn of Microsoft to try and grab an upper hand in the volatile console market with its unveiling of the next Xbox which has been slated by the Washington-based tech giant for May 21. Unlike Sony however, the company hasn’t kept it a secret as to what it will be showcasing at the grand event. A ‘new generation of games, TV and entertainment’ beckons fans, said Major Nelson on his official blog.
This special press event of Microsoft’s will be held on its Redmond campus, but eager gamers from around the globe needn’t worry, as live streams will be up and running for them to witness the historical unveiling. Globally, the company’s official websites will be seen broadcasting the spectacle, while in the US and Canada, it will also be accessible via Spike TV. The event will commence on Tuesday, May 21 at 17:00 GMT which translates to 10.30 pm Indian Standard Time, so make sure to stack up your snacks and drinks for the long night to follow.
Titled ‘A New Generation Revealed,’ the event will of course see the revealing of the next-gen console from Microsoft, of which we’ve heard plenty till now not to be expecting things. The most harrying among all the rumors has been the device’s apparent insistence of always-on Internet. Fan outrage about this purported issue has evidently been at a boiling point since this news broke out. And on top of that, there are even rumors that the console will watermark its disks so they won’t be usable on any other devices.
Moving on; while the event will unveil Microsoft’s vision of its next-gen hardware to the world, its E3 press conference will showcase what it has in store on the software side of things. Nineteen days after the reveal, the company will be granting us a glimpse of its ‘full lineup of blockbuster games’ which are slated to hit the next generation machine, often also referred to by its codename, Durango.
