Kinect for Xbox 360 Hits 1 Million Mark

Some weeks ago, Microsoft plugged its distance from the motion sensing arena of the gaming world with the Kinect for Xbox 360. The gaming giant has now revealed that the controller-free system has reached nearly one million homes around the globe within first 10 days of its release.

As the Kinect geared up to enter the terrain, the company revised its sales forecast for the device from three million to five million till the end of the year. Owing to the massive response garnered by the sensor, it is expected that estimated sales may come through in this period. The product engineers an exciting path to the world of entertainment, allowing users to interact with a simple wave of a hand as well as voice commands.

Don Mattrick, President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, explained, “We are appreciative of the response we have seen from consumers that has culminated in sales of more than 1 million units in the first 10 days on the market for Kinect for Xbox 360. This is a great start to the holiday season, and we will continue to work with our retailer partners to keep pace with high demand and deliver against our plan to sell more than 5 million Kinect sensors worldwide by the end of this year.”

“We have seen tremendous excitement from customers for Kinect for Xbox 360,” enthused Chris Homeister, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Home Entertainment Group at Best Buy. “There were lines of customers at our stores all over the country on the night of the Kinect launch, and thousands more are trying it for themselves in our stores every day. It’s no surprise Microsoft has already surpassed 1 million units sold, and we expect Kinect to be one of the must-have gifts at Best Buy this holiday.”

Microsoft has been designing a new blueprint of delightful gaming sessions with the combination of the Xbox 360 console, the Kinect sensor and the Xbox Live network. Gamers can plunge into this web of interactivity with standalone Kinect sensor which has been tagged for 149.99 USD (approx. Rs. 6,792). Those who wish to purchase the sensor along with the console can opt for the 4GB bundle or the 250GB version. The former is available for 299.99 USD (approx. Rs. 13,585) while the latter can be procured at the price of 399.99 USD (approx. Rs. 18,120).

Already available in North America and Europe, the Kinect for Xbox 360 will sail across to Asia and Japan on November 18, 2010 and November 20, 2010, respectively. With this, the system is said to spread across 38 countries through over 60,000 retailers.
