Nvidia launches Titan Xp…probably too soon for GTX 1080 Ti users

After rolling out the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPU just last month, Nvidia decided to take it up a notch and launch the Titan Xp GPU. It probably feels too soon for Ti owners who had the “fastest GPU in the world” till now. Well, the Titan Xp is what you get for $500 more than what you’d pay for the latter.

Based on Pascal micro-architecture (plays successor to Maxwell), the Nvidia Titan Xp boasts of no less than 3840 CUDA cores speeding along at 1.6GHz. Its 12GB of GDDR5X memory runs at 11.4Gbps and the memory bandwidth is given as 547.7GB/s. It’s prepared to handle all your VR needs too.

Nvidia claims that this “Titan” among GPUs can support 7680 x 4320p screens at 60Hz RGB 8-bit with dual DisplayPort connectors or 7680 x 4320p panels at 60Hz YUV420 8-bit with DisplayPort 1.3 connectors. The hardware packs 12 TFLOPs of force into a die-cast aluminum body with vapor chamber cooling.

Nvidia Titan Xp

It is undeniably gorgeous in terms of design appeal. And Nvidia hasn’t forgotten about Mac users here. It’s working to unveil new Pascal drivers for its 10-series cards for Mac OSX this month as a beta release. Seems like good timing (or lip service?) – Apple is said to be prepping a modular Mac Pro.

As nice as it sounds, Cupertino will take at least a couple of years to bring that into the market. As for the Titan Xp, it’s priced at $1200 on Nvidia’s official website. It will be coming to authorized retailers soon. Now let’s wait for what AMD has in store for us with its Radeon Vega series.
