Xbox One to get 2TB hard drive this year

At its Gamescom conference, Microsoft announced that it has partnered with Seagate in order to create a 2TB hard drive named Game Drive for the Xbox One. Also meant to work with the Xbox 360, this product will have its price set at 110 USD (approx. Rs 7000) when it’s released later this year.

This new hard drive from Seagate supports the USB 3.0 standard. It will be available through GameStop, Amazon as well as other supporting retailers from around the world. Although Microsoft has mentioned that this Xbox One and Xbox 360 accessory will be made available later this year, it has stopped short of providing a definite release date.

With games these days requiring about 50GB worth of data in order to run, adding more storage to consoles is becoming sort of a necessity for some. In order to address this space crunch Microsoft recently introduced a 1TB model of its Xbox One system. Not too long after its arrival, Sony too brought out a 1TB variant of the PS4 console.

The Seagate offering we’re talking about has been neatly designed to suit the green and black Xbox theme. It’s a pretty compact device and does not require a separate power cord.

When you’ll connect if for the first time, the console will take your through a small setup process, after which it will be ready to go. Stressing on the plug-and-play storage nature of this hard drive, Seagate’s senior director of product marketing Jeff Fochtman mentioned that above all things, this collaboration with Microsoft will help his company to reach a new audience.
