Nvidia Shield is an Android TV console capable of running Crysis 3 and other biggies

Ready to be made available this May is the Nvidia Shield, which is being touted to be the world’s first Android TV console. Priced at $199, it will be able to run AAA titles like Crysis 3 natively, while it will also provide support for streaming other high-quality games. It’s a neatly designed 4K capable machine which comes installed with the Android TV platform, and has the ultra-powerful Tegra X1 processor at its heart.

The Nvidia Shield will be sold along with the same controller which being is offered with the Shield Tablet right now. More than fifty games, the likes of which include Crysis 3, Doom 3: BFG Edition and Borderlands: The Pre Sequel have been optimized to run on it locally. Again, these are full PC quality offerings that will be running on an Android-based device, if you’re still not able to wrap your mind around it.

Moreover, with the help of Nvidia’s GRID on-demand game-streaming service, owners of the new console will be able to stream games like Batman: Arkham Origins, GRID 2, Metro: Last Light Redux and the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. All this will be accessible alongside regular Android games and Android TV attributes, making the experience of the console a truly unique one.

The Shield is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-enabled, and its Tegra X1 processor doles out high graphical prowess thanks to its 256-core Maxwell GPU and 3GB of RAM. It features 16GB of onboard storage, but there’s indeed a microSD card slot present on it for further expansions of up to 128GB.

Like we said, the Nvidia Shield Android TV console will be released in May this year, with its price set at $199.
