PS4 India launch date revealed, all eyes on price

The Sony PlayStation 4, or the PS4, is all set to make a debut in India on December 18, according to a press invite sent out by the company today. Although there is no mention of an official release date for the console as well as its price, both these important questions are expected to be answered at the launch event which is to take place in New Delhi on the above mentioned date.

The press meet will be graced by Kinichiro Hibi, who’s the managing director of Sony India, Robert Fisser, the vice president of SCEE for Middle East and India and of course, SCE’s country manager, Atindriya Bose. It will be the first time that the PS4 will ever officially set foot in India. We say officially because its ‘no region lock’ policy has already prompted many a gamer to import it from other countries.

November 15 was the day on which the PS4 was made available in North America, while its European and Australian release took place on November 29. Available right now in 32 countries, it will be delivered in Sony’s home country, Japan, in February 2014. This means, Indian gamers would definitely be getting to buy the console prior to Japanese ones.

The PS4, with its advanced capabilities has already topped 2.1 million sales worldwide, and is currently competing tooth and nail with the Xbox One, which has lost much ground thanks to a number of its restrictive policies and their subsequent reversals which came after severe fan backlashes.

The standard price of the PS4 in the US is 399.99 USD which exactly translates to Rs 24,845 based on today’s rates. But the actual cost of the console is set to be much higher than that due to various business factors.
