Ion iCade Core Looks to Bring Arcade-Style Gaming to iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch

The Ion iCade Core which was recently on display at the CES, is aimed by its maker to provide users with arcade gaming experiences while playing on their iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch devices. This gadget’s joystick as well as its buttons have been designed on the lines of the classic arcade cabinets that enjoyed tremendous popularity during the 80s and 90s.

The iCade Core is aimed by Ion for gamers to be able to challenge their friends in retro-gaming parties. Its specially designed cradle is said to easily house the iPad, providing it with a solid and secure fit for long gaming sessions. A pass-thru slot blow this device even allows users to charge their iPads without the need to stop their gaming activities. Moreover, this cradle also swivels to let users play in either portrait or landscape modes.

The iCade Core is able to connect to the iPad using Bluetooth, after which any compatible app can be launched on the tablet. It provides support for a number of classic games including Pac-Man, Asteroids, Centipede and Battlezone. Furthermore, it is also said to be compatible with other modern games, taking the tally to 200 titles.

The Ion iCade Core is yet to receive its price and availability details, but it has been confirmed that this device will be out later this year.
