Minecraft to finally jump into virtual reality, coming to Oculus Rift and Gear VR

After making its way to most modern platforms, Minecraft is all set to now jump onto a platform of the future – virtual reality. The game has been announced by Oculus to be headed to its Rift hardware as well as Samsung’ Gear VR headset.

There’s no particular release date in sight right now, but spring 2016 has been mentioned to be the timeframe during which Minecraft will start being made available on its two new platforms. This news comes around a year and a half following the cancellation of an under-development port of the game by its creator Notch.

Real name Markus Persson, he had expressed displeasure on the fact that Facebook purchased Oculus, and had hence abandoned the project. But the rights to Minecraft now reside with Microsoft, and the PC-maker is game for yet another port of it.

Since then, it has grown in popularity in such a way that it’s available to play on almost every other gaming platform out there. Recently, a version of the title which will feature a full-fledged story and will be played in the form of an adventure game was also announced.
