Redbox to Rent Games in 5000 New Kiosks

Bothered by the high prices of game? Ever considered renting them? Redbox is one company which lets users rent DVDs, Blu-ray discs as well as games through vending machines. And following its next move, more users would be able to so as Redbox plans to install 5000 more machines which would open to public on August 1.

With the addition of the new kiosks users would be able to rent games for their PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii systems. The company claims that 68 percent of the U.S. population lives within a five-minute drive of a Redbox kiosk. It recently rented its 4 millionth game since it started renting the same in 2009. Furthermore, it also reached its 1.5 billionth movie rental last month.

Joel Resnik, vice president of video games, Redbox, shared, “Whether customers are playing a new game or genre, trying a game before they buy it or simply entertaining friends and family, they’re embracing the availability of games at Redbox.”

Movies and games can also be rented through its website and its rent and return anywhere policy allows users to return it at any kiosk according to their convenience. In 2009, Redbox launched an app for the iPhone that has been downloaded nearly 4.5 million times. On the other hand, its Android app which was released in February, 2011 has been downloaded more than 2 million times.

This move by Redbox to add 5000 more kiosks to its fleet from August, 1 onwards will take the total number of its vending machines in the U.S. to 27,000.
