Female PC Gamers Make Up Largest Gaming Group: Nielsen Report

Even with recession, video games are a very popular form of entertainment and continue to take the markets by storm. According to a report by Nielsen Games on the Nielsen blog, women who are 25 years of age or older make up the biggest group of people playing PC games.

Female Gamers

The report takes into consideration all sorts of games though, from hardcore games for the Xbox 360 and PS3 to casual games like the ones which come built into a computer. More people are getting involved in the gaming experience with ever increasing platforms, such as mobile platforms.

“Females 25 years and older make up the largest block of PC game players, accounting for 46.2 percent of all players and 54.6 percent of all game play minutes in December 2008,” the report says. The most played PC games turn out to be card games from Microsoft and Solitaire leads the pack as the most played game on the PC in December 2008 with over 17 million players.

Also, Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers, the report suggests, are much less likely to watch prime time television than are gamers of other consoles.
