World Gaming Day Launched by Zapak, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Ericsson

Soon the world will see a day specially set aside just for gaming and gaming enthusiasts. Who would have thought, finally a day dedicated to the lowly gamer. The World Gaming Day is to be celebrated by millions in India and around the world on February 12, 2009.

Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony Ericsson and Zapak.com announced this major event on the gaming calendar and they hope for it to be an annual occurrence. Prizes worth over 12 crores are up for grabs and the winners of the Indian event, which is taking place at Mumbai, will play the best in Bollywood on the same day.

India’s contribution to the gaming industry is ever increasing and the gaming industry globally is likely to reach 46.5 billion USD by 2010, according to PWC Media Outlook ’07-’11 and that of India is expected to reach the 200 million USD mark by 2011, according to Nascom.

Gamers from all over the world made an appearance at the unveiling of the ‘World Gaming Day’ in Mumbai. Among these gamers was actor Aftab Shivdasani, who cared to comment, “Gaming is one of my passions. I play as often as I can – on my mobile, on my laptop or even on the console at home. It feels great to be a part of the celebrations for ‘World Gaming Day’ and I am glad that Sony Ericsson, Zapak and Xbox 360 have taken such an initiative at a global level.”

Sony Ericsson also took the opportunity to launch their new gaming mobile phone, the Sony Ericsson F305, which has motion gaming technology for the gaming experience on your mobile phone.

Various competitions and activities are involved in the festivities of ‘World Gaming Day’, which is being thoroughly marketed and advertised across various media such as radio, television and internet in India. The activities are being held at Zapak Gameplexes and there is even an online contest.
