Fox set to turn EA’s Spore into Movie
We’ve seen quite a few IPs move from game to movies now, rather than the usual movie to game transition. Recently there was news about the upcoming Halo movie being directed by Steven Spielberg and the Lost Planet movie deviating from the video game. Now Variety reports that Twentieth Century Fox has partnered with Electronic Arts to turn the hit EA game Spore, into a movie, or a “creature feature”.

Apparently Greg Erb and Jason Oremland will write the “script” for the movie, with Ice Age’s Chris Wedge at the helm of the project. The production is to be handled by EA and Blue Sky Studios.
“I’m always looking for unique worlds to go to in animation,” Wedge explained, speaking on what drew him to Spore. “From every perspective — visually, thematically and comedically — the world of ‘Spore’ provides the potential to put something truly original on the screen.”
Spore is the hugely successful video game for the PC, which lets gamers play God and toy with evolutionary processes. The franchise has even expanded and is coming to platforms such as the Wii and Nintendo DSi.
